    Nintendo NX may use old-school cartridges – and that’s great | WOW247

So Nintendo supposedly has a new console coming out after they butchered the Wii U release and doomed it for its entire existence. The NX is rumored to be going back to cartridges, which I would fully be on board with. I have old Genesis, NES, and SNES games that still work no problem. All you have to do is clean them out with Qtips and Windex every now and then and those things last forever.

God forbid you drop a disk. One scratch and you're doomed.

I'm also not too keen on the whole digital trend that the PS5 and Xbox Whatever will more than likely go. I like having hard copies of games.

Yes hard copies are better. Certain games lag and thats no good..

I had a free digital copy of Madden one year, sucked, thing froze up all the time.

Would work in theory as long as the new cartridges can hold a LOT more memory. likely they will just be cartridges with the disks inside lol.

This will fail. Big time. Stupid gimmicky idea designed to appeal to the retro neckbeards.

In the subject of Nintendo, I read Sony makes more from their psn network than Nintendo makes as a company overall. That's how far they've fallen.

Cartridges won't be the reason the new system fails. When it comes down to it people won't care if they have disks or cartridges.

The problem with cartridges back in 1996 was that they became too expensive compared to disks. Disks could hold more data for a cheaper price. Not really the case anymore. There is also less piracy and load times with carts.

The reasons the NX could fail would be a lack of a launch lineup(doomed the Wii U) and the fact that it is being released four years after the Wii U. Very few people outside of diehard Nintendo fans will want to buy another system after four years.

But.. Did anyone actually buy the Wii U? I know exactly zero people.

All of my friends have a Wii U and a PS4. The games that actually came out for it were lots of fun. All six of them.

Nintendo did three things wrong with the Wii U.

First, they gave third party developers too much freedom with their launch titles. The developers basically told Nintendo that they couldn't compete with Nintendo's AAA titles, which is true, so Nintendo allowed them to have the first crack at things with their launch lineup. The payoff? A bunch of half assed ports and no Nintendo titles. Absolutely killed the momentum of being the first new console on the market.

The second thing that killed the system was the gamepad. I love that the gamepad can be used to play games without needing the picture on the TV. I can play and my girl can watch whatever stupid reality show she wants to. The problem is that the Wii U can't be purchased without it and adds like $100 to the price. It should have been treated as a normal peripheral. And it only has a battery life of like three hours.

The last problem was branding. They should have ditched the "Wii" moniker. I didn't even know that the Wii U was a new system initially. I thought the "U" part was just the gamepad as an added peripheral.

Don't blow in them to clean them out. Learned that lesson.

    Q-tips and windex/rubbing alcohol.

Blowing in them corrodes the pins faster.
