2016 Legal FA Tampering Period

This early in the process I don't think we can get hung up on the order of signings. If they ignore the OL then we can pitch hissy fits and go on hunger strikes (except for bacon). But looking at opportunities as they arise mostly doesn't follow a pattern of team need. FA hasn't really even started yet.

 

And why shouldn't I when I find out we are giving up resources (draft PICKS) for a guy who probably would have been CUT and while he was great behind the best OL in football (Dallas), he looked pretty bad last year and the Eagles OL is a lot better than ours. Did I mention he's 28, injury prone, supposedly gonna retain all his guaranteed money ($21mil) and had like a 3.6ypc avg last year? Matthews had like a 5ypc avg behind the same line and Murray is faster than Matthews. Did I mention that as part of the trade we are giving him a new contract?

Unless we got him for a late round pick and structured his new contract in a way that we can get out of it in a 1-2 years, this will be a bad first move. I understand the thinking...especially from Mularkey's standpoint of we better improve drastically or he's toast, but that yearly amount that would go to Murray would have gone a long way towards Osemele who we don't get now. And I understand they are thinking it wasn't a good scheme fit for Murray last year, but if they don't fix the OL, his 3.6ypc will go down, not up and we will be on the hook for a bad chunk of cap.

We should have looked to get vet OL help and not overpay for mediocre talent at that. Spend a little extra on a premiere OL or 2 and that'll go farther than spending big money on Murray.

And remember, next year's draft class should be LOADED with premiere RB talent and we will probably no longer be in a position to draft one of them because of this deal.

 

The problem is, we MIGHT have had a legit starting RB on the team but won't know that til the OL is fixed. Murray won't do much better but we'll get to pay him $7mil/yr to also stink? And paying him so much money also is a chunk of our cap we could have spent on the OL.

It could work out, but they better get moving on the OL or this will all be a waste of cap and draft picks...which is what Webster excelled at!!!

 

But that's kind of the point. They probably would have cut Murray if they couldn't trade him. As a free agent, he can choose not to come here but while under a large contract, he has a lot of power in the negotiation for a new contract. And the draft pick compensation will tell us a lot.

It's kind of like trading for an Andre Johnson when you don't have a QB to throw him the ball. You're laying out draft picks for the trade, giving him a new contract...and we'll figure the QB part out later.

A lot of risk and I'm worried they won't get the OL fixed and that Tunsil will be our first pick.

 

Trevathan is a damn good player.. But I'm sure he ends up in Chicago with his old coach John Fox.

 

Looks like Osemelle is going to the Raiders at 5 years/60 mil. And, Malik Jackson to the Jags.

Pretty sure that 12 mill a year is too much for us to pay Osemelle. My guess is that you see us spend on interior linemen, and draft Tunsil.
