I had an old Macbook that was still running great. But then a few years back I guess something changed within the Mac OS X so I was unable to continue upgrading the OS. Eventually I couldn't even use Safari or other basic programs (they required updates that I could not install on my OS). I was pissed so I went back to Windows.

This current laptop is a Lenevo, which I thought had a good reputation. But I've had more problems with it than my old cheap $300 Toshiba Satellite.

This. I have AVG on mine. Bought my HP brand new in 2009 and it's still running good. It's slow obviously compared to using a iPad or any other computer that's been manufactured the last few years.

All of my computers have been cheap 300 dollar ones, too. I would never spend big money on a computer, because 5 years down the road, it will be totally obsolete. When I started DJing in 2005-2006, a good 200 GB hard drive was 200 dollars. Now, 2 TB hard drives are under that.

spending good money on high dollar computers is a bad investment, unless you really have a use for it.

That's what I'd do if I could. But I work in Photoshop/Illustrator/InDesign on a daily basis so I need at least above-average specs or those programs are gonna run like s***.

    ToucControl isnt the problem.

Go to your control panel. Once there, click on administrative tools. Then select event viewer.

Once there, you should have some type of "windows logs" folder. When you select it, itll drop down 5 options. Application, security, setup, system, and forwarded events.

Click on application. Look at the list and see if there is an error. If there are no errors, itll just say "information"

Do the same with the system option and check for errors.

Since this is happening often, there should be something there. Copy and paste it and tag me so ill know to check back.

With your RAM, do you have 2 4gig sticks or 4 2gig Sticks? Or do you know

When I do that it comes up with over 21,000 "events" and there are dozens of "errors" and numerous "warnings".

No idea. I haven't touched it since I bought it.

Take a few of them and copy/paste the warning into google. You may have to leave off a few letters and numbers.

    Error 392. Isk22k8s8oskwnwsus8q

Just type the error number in and see what it says. Often, itll lead you to the problem.

Well, I got into the office this morning, opened my laptop and got a black screen with some crazy message. After some googling it sounds like hard drive failure. Unbelievable. This is a SSD that's only a year old.

Props. 10 years is impressive. I had one for 7 years where I did same thing. I updated graphics card and memory. I did have hard drive die and replaced it once.

My main computer now is 5 years and I also had to replace hard drive once. I also tripped over a cord drunk and totally ruined a USB slot haha.

Sawdust, there will be videos on YouTube teaching how to test components. You said you use antivirus, not sure what, but you should be using or try malware bytes and spybot as they've saved me from bad virus before.
