I wish they wouldn't call this a holdout. 4 years in a row of being the last to sign your first rounder doesn't make them look bad.

PFT really wants the Titans to sell the team. No matter what is said, they spin it as the Titans are for sale. It's sad.

"Mariota threw an interception in practice today. I bet the current regime wishes he didn't make himself look bad in front of potential buyers!",

Yes, the offset language stuff in contracts is stupid to argue. But everyone would be bitching if a player did in fact get cut and the Titans were still paying him at top pick money. Damned if you do and damned if you don't situation for a GM.

No not really. Don't you ever wonder why the Titans are last in these things compared to other organizations?

Given the abysmal record of this franchise over the last decade, it's fair to question everything. I just think this adds to the pile of front office ineptness.

Why can't rookie salaries already be set? Base it off last year..draft slot position...position played etc..why do players who haven't played a down dictate when they sign? Here's the contract sign it lol

    they are 'set'

From what I have heard, its language saying if he is cut before his contract is up, that we will not be responsible for paying him if he is picked up again. Essentially double dipping, I don't think its that big of a deal, just get it done and move on. If Mariota busts and we end up in a situation to keep paying him, I doubt its going to impact us much financially.

I think its not really for Mariota, I don't think we're too concerned that we'll be cutting him soon... but for future first round picks.

I'm really surprised that Webster even acknowledged Mariota skipping days at camp though, it really shouldn't come close to that. they have 6 weeks to talk... and the pay is already settled.

Which is a stupid thing to argue about. The same thing happened with Fat Ass- I mean Warmack.

You pick a guy in the top ten, #2 in this case, and you're worried about having to pay him if he ends up being so awful that he isn't on the team for four years. If that happens Webster won't have too worry about it because he'll be looking for a job.

Or he could just not sign and re-enter the draft next year and hope to get on a team that isn't a QB graveyard.

Don't forget there is a precedent, as well.

What if we draft someone next year who has had off the field issues. Leaving out offset language for Mariota could be a concern.

The existence of this topic just reaffirms what I've said all off season.

The only people left here are the optimists and the chronic complainers.

Going to be a long year with all you people using this forum as an outlet to whine about every little thing.

    This is a non issue.
