It's gotten embarrassing. I'd hate to see this happen to McNair.

He definitely is. What's even worst is he isn't coming to terms with it either, spouting out to the media that he'll be back next year. PFFFTTT. If Favre and the people around him know what's good for him and his legacy, they'll advise him to retire. I hope he does; I hate seeing a great player and a good man like him go down like this.

Years from now, I don't think people will think of his later years when they think of him. I think the same will go for Eddie George and others who played too long.

John Madden will never stop kissing Farve's *** though

Exactly. The problem with vets like McNair and Farve is they don't usually hit the scrap heap all at once. First goes the consistency. They have enough good games every now and then that fans can say "see, they still have it, it isn't their fault". Green Bay has put themselves into a situation where it might take years to get back to respectability because they held on a couple of years too long.

The packers were a playoff team last year. So not sure how they held on a couple years too long. Take into consideration that he lost argueably his top 2 OL during the offseason, his top receiver, his top 2 RBs, etc. Yeah, he has looked pretty bad this year, and is certainly towards the end of his career, but if that team had stayed healthy and been able to keep the Oline in tact from last year, then I think Favre has a much better season. He obviously isnt MVP calibre anymore, but with good enough talent around him I think he can still win some games.

But in no way does it hurt his legacy. No one is going to remember Brett Favre for this season after he was a perenial MVP candidate, superbowl winner, NFC champ, and quite simply a playmaker for years.

Farve's biggest problem is that he has always been able to use his arm strength to make up for average OL and receivers (deeper drops and putting the ball into tighter coverage)..now his arm strenth can't make up for a 7 step drop on every play.. on the Miami dolphins Farve goes back to the playoffs next year..

ten years from now no one will think of this when they hear his name. the thing they'll think of is him running into the endzone and body slamming his WRs and having fun.
