Jason McCourty for GM!!!

Even the biggest piece of chit has some heart.

 

Once I got my ring I would be in it for the money. I would love to win another one, but the money would be hard to pass up.

 

Because I said they had to be players who were crucial to the functioning of the Patriots' defense. We saw clearly after they left that those guys weren't.

You can make the argument that McCourty isn't, either, but my feeling is the Patriots don't see him that way.

As for the salary cap stuff, it won't be that hard for the Patriots to get under if they want to. This information is out there. Go find it if you don't believe me. Some maneuvering necessary, but nothing beyond what teams like the Patriots do every offseason.

 

Revis changed the way that team was able to play defense and McCourty as good as he is didn't exactly make that D a world beater before Revis got there. I'd hold on to Revis and hope Wilson is ready to go. They could also draft a young ball hawk like Holliman in the draft. Shut down corners are much harder to find.

 

Asante Samuel was a lot more of an important piece to that defense than McCourty is to this defense. It took Revis AND Browner to allow them to play a ton of man coverage this year. So, I don't agree with your premise.

I have already posted the numbers of their cap space and Revis dead cap hit as well as what both players are expected to be looking for and what it will take for them to sign each if neither gives them a home town discount. Revis is particularly a challenge as his whole career he likes cash each year so structuring it that way is not cap friendly. It will probably be difficult for them to keep both unless one or both give them a discount.

And considering they spend a 2nd rnd pick on a S and just re-signed their other S, McCourty is more likely to walk. The ball is really in Revis' court.

 

I take it you haven't seen the reports saying Revis is willing to do a team-friendly deal. I still think it's 80% likely both stay. We'll see.

 

Please share this report that quotes revis or his agent that he's willing to take a team friendly deal to stay in NE.....

 

If we could actually pull off getting McCourty 2, and then drafted L. Williams, that would help fix our defense. It would at least be a start. LOL

 

If he hits free agency I think we stand a very good chance of landing him. He already has a ring and has never received his big "pay day" contract(just finished his rookie contract), so if we offer him a decent amount, which the pats won't be able to match thanks to their already thinly stretched out cap, we are almost a lock to get him thanks to JMac.

 

Obviously there won't be a Revis quote attached to this. He isn't an idiot. Besides, you don't need an on-the-record quote for a report to be valid. If that was the case, 98% of NFL news would disappear immediately.
