I really didn't want to end up with a kicker named Coons, but I think we are out of luck.

First, anyone suggesting we keep one guy to punt AND PK hasn't thought this thru. This isn't kick ball! The kicking motions are different first of all, secondly, the better your technique, the better you kick. Diluting your kickers practice time between 2 different techniques leads to poor kicking! A lot of good college kickers never make it as NFL PK's...and those are guys practicing the SAME motion. It is that big of a difference between a good NFL kicker (kicking with great accuracy) versus a bad one. So you won't have a good PK and a mediocore punter, you'll have a mediocre PK and a bad punter.

And think about it. Would you really wanna give up say 10-15 yds per punt to save 1 roster spot out of 53? To put that in perspective, Kern punted 78 times last year so over the course of a season, would you give up an extra 1000 yards in field position?

Of course there is one bigger reason this is not done that one poster was astute enough to mention. If you only had one wonder boy kicker to do everything - even if he could do it well - what happens if he got hurt, who kicks off, kicks fg's, extra points, and punts?

And Long Snapper is a very important position and is a specialized skill. It won't take you long to google the distance you have to snap it and the technique. Grab a football and a couple of friends and try it. Bring a stopwatch and have a friend to catch the ball (with the rule he can't move his feet and the ball has to land within the frame of his reach). And once you can do that, try to do that 100 times in a row without missing or being too slow.

If you can do all that, call the Titans up for a tryout!!!

It's not nearly as easy as it looks. And remember, turnovers are the fastest way to losing a game. Again, would you want to blow a game or games because you wanted to save a roster spot for a 4th string position player who will likely not see the field?
