So DirecTV's customer service immediately goes from #1 to bottom of the barrel overnight.

So did AT&T buy DishNetwork or did that fall through?

Yep. I think I've said this in another thread but of all the multimillion/billion dollar companies I've ever dealt with, Directv was the best. AT&T, the worst. Oh well. I canceled my Directv earlier this year anyway. Now I just stream.

Seems more like a move that's outdated.

Hmmm... I've had both Comcast and AT&T. I have AT&T at home and Comcast at school.

Comcast has the absolute worst customer service, and AT&T has been fine.

I don't agree with this, at all, but...

Technically, this is not a monopoly. They still have competition in a majority of areas.

Up here, we have Time Warner that does it all in one bundle: cable, internet, landlines and now with Verizon, wireless. Maybe security now.

AT&T acquiring Direct TV won't change this and won't take that competition away.

Again... I am not for this.

cable TV has always been a money leech anyway. They can all buy these companies, as more and more people trend away from Cable/Satellite. It won't effect me one bit. If they decide to eventually make internet 100 bucks a month, I'll just do what the homeless do.. spend a lot of time at the library, or mcdonalds, or anywhere else that has free wifi.

Now, if telecommunication companies bought out each other - of the exact same type - you'd have a monopoly.

    These are not monopolies... yet.

The real issue isn't price, its a likely violation of our free speech. Some proposed 'plans' call for a type of bundle for what websites you want, and how much access you can get.

This has never really been about price from a consumer standpoint.
