I understand the role. But regardless of attacking a gap, he's gonna quickly become a diversion in that said role. I think that's stupid.

And I believe one of the reporters had an article about him dropping weight

Yeah Casey dropping weight seems like a clear sign he will be a DE but then again who knows. I trust Horton to put our best lineman in position to make plays.

I think our line/defense in general will have a lot of mixed looks judging by the personel. At least until guys settle into roles and we add a couple more pieces.

I'm not sure that Jones isn't better suited to be a 3-4 DE.

There's a lot of these "multiple" position types we have right now. But holy hell if we put the smallest DT in the middle and the larger ones on the edge... I'm gonna really wonder wtf we are doing. The whole front 7 has about as many questions as possible right now.

I just looked at Jones's transcript and he said he was comfortable with nose, end, or 3 technique.

I guess the reality is that there are few true NT's. The 3-4 kinda scares me.

I don't see ayers starting over wimbley or Philips in Horton d. but, I do think he'll see the field plenty

It will be interesting to see how this puzzle comes together. A lot will probably depend on who our opponent is and what their strengths are.

I actually love the idea of having 2 BIG DEs and stout OLBers to stuff the outside run thus funneling everything inside. If the MLBers and safeties know that the outside edges are pretty darn secure against the run then they have less area to patrol.

For our base defense I wouldn't mind having Casey and Brown attacking the A Gaps most of the time and then having Pollard dropping quickly into the box on run support.

However it works out I'm just excited to see us use more 3-4 concepts. The whole basic idea of forcing the OL and QB to think more in trying to figure out where the 4th rusher is coming from just makes more sense because the more you make the other team think and communicate the more of a chance they have at messing up a call/assignment.

Philips is only good on 3rd downs. He started the OTA's last week with the No.2's. I see that job as Ayers to lose.
