Week 1 I see our front seven looking.like this

    Wimbley mccarthy brown philips

    Pito hill casey

The lbs im more confident in and casey and pito will start on the line, hopefully hill with his big a@@ can show something this camp with the pressure on. Klug and morgan will have a hard time in transition, imo.

I would put Woods in ahead of Hill and flip Casey with Pito. And Ayers will start. Probably ahead of Philips who I expect to a situational pass rush specialist.

I think Pito and Casey will be ends and I can see Mookie and Jones splitting time at NT this year and Jones taking over full time next season. Ayers definitely will start and I think Phillips starts on the other side with Woodyard and Brown in the middle.

If you go to the Titansonline official roster which has recently been updated because it has Taylor Lewan listed on it. You will see that Casey is listed as a DL not a DE. The other DL are Hill, Johnson, Martin, and Woods. While the DEs are listed as Edwards, Klug, Pitoitua, and Dixon. Morgan is listed as a LB/DE.

The way that I interpret the DL designation is that those are the guys who would be a NT in the 3-4 and a DT in the 4-3.

So I think that Casey will be more of a NT/DT than a DE/DT. If you look around the league you just won't find any 6'1" DEs in the 3-4 scheme. They are all 6'3" or taller. Casey fits more along the lines of Ian Williams and Dorsey the NTs for the 49ers. Casey needs to be that inside disrupter.

I think that our starting front 7 defense will be Pitoitua, Casey, Morgan, Ayers, Brown, Woodyard, Wimbley.

It will be interesting to see how the front 7 fits together. In Cleveland they had Rubin as a 330lber playing as a DE. Could our new 4th rnd rookie Jones be the big 3-4 DE or Hill or Johnson.

    Lots of competition...which is good.

    I'm not sure you understand a 34.

There just isn't anyway I can believe we would take our best pass rusher and turn him into a sitting space eating duck. Put him on the end and let him attack and collapse from the edge.

Maybe you don't understand that if we are going to run a 1 gap 3-4 system like Horton has said that putting Casey over the nose and having him chose a gap to attack will force the OL to double him a bunch with the C and OG. It is a much much shorter distance to the backfield by attacking the A gap rather than from 5 tech. DE position.

We will see, but if the plan was to play him mainly at DE then why don't we have him listed as a DE like Pitoitua?

He might see some snaps from NT but it's a waste. He's not a double team DT in a 43 so why would he magically become one in a 34? Not to mention he has dropped to 285.

Have you read the article of Hortons defense explained?

Only asking because I will find it for you if you havent.

What I took out of it, is that its more about gap assignments. So having that huge, space eating DT isnt a necessity in his system. He could like up at DT or DE and "still perform his role"

I think you aren't understanding...his job from the NT position will NOT be to sit there and try to occupy both A gaps like the traditional 2 gap 3-4 systems require. His roll will be to penetrate the A gap as quickly as possible and thus force a double team by the C and OG. The inside Lber will then be responsible for covering the other A gap.

Where did you see that he has dropped down to 285lbs? He is still listed at 305lbs. You might be right that he will play more DE, but he will be the shortest 3-4 DE in the league.

IMO he will put much more pressure on the QB and the OL by playing over the center and making them guess which gap he is going to attack.

Yea I'm versed in the differences of the. 1-2 gap 34. I just don't see 285 LB Casey at his best in the middle. That is especially true when we just drafted the big 330 LB nt type. Something's "funny" about the fit.

I just see Casey getting blocked in the middle. Especially lighter.
