Well I said that assuming he turns the disastrous Steelers line around. For years that line has been their biggest issue. If Munchak turns that group around yea I like his chances at another HC gig some day.

He's a great OL coach so if anyone can do it he can. I just don't see him getting another HC opportunity regardless. At least not without a few years of coordinator experience in there somewhere.

You can roll out a list of excuses a mile long, but at the end of the day Munch's tenure here was a failure. Lots of mediocrity with little to no positive to take from it (oh, I almost forgot "the players liked him"). I just don't think he's the kind of guy teams are going to be looking to give another chance to. Again, not without paying his dues at the coordinator level and being successful there as well.

If Munchak wasn't a stupid pants and hired a legit OC, he'd likely still be here. Im not going to stand up too hard for the guy, but if you dont think this league recycles bad coaches youre silly.

... not saying he's "amazing" or even "good". I'm saying he's not terrible.

But I know why this fanbase thinks so. They pop a boner over any change, then when it takes a while to adjust (the norm)... they go psycho girlfriend on the changee.

Same thing is about to happen to Whisenhunt. All these Titans fans that haven't followed football programs long are praising the guy and putting him on some pedestal before he does anything. So in a year or 2... when the system still isn't all the way polished-- they'll turn on him the same way.

Titans fans and their unrealistic expectations. It's weird.

So you don't think he's a good HC then? If that's the case then I don't know what we're arguing about. Like I said earlier, "not good", "bad", "terrible" is all just semantics to me. If it makes you feel better if I just say "Munch is not a good HC" then so be it and we'll leave it at that. I don't know why you're making such a big deal about the word "terrible".

I agree with that. But that's every fanbase to one degree or another. It's not unique to the Titans. Just look at Jets fans right now. They all of sudden think they're going to go from worst to first in offense just because they added two washed up "superstars".

I think Whisenhunt will get a lot more leeway with the fans than Munch did. The big difference is that 95% of the fanbase hated the Munch hire from the get-go. They thought he was woefully unqualified (he was) and felt that it was yet another example of that Oiler/Titan good ole boy buddy system (it was). So when he goes on to do things like lose to the worst team in the league every year, post an abysmal flat out embarrassing divisional record, routinely get blown out, field the worst defense in Titan history, yeah... the fans are going to be calling for his head. Because he turned out to be exactly what most of us thought he would be (i.e. in over his head). It's really frustrating when you can see something coming from a mile away but you can't do anything other than just sit there and watch the trainwreck. You of all people should understand that considering you are right so often.

I know this will sound nit picky but words have meaning. Terrible and mediocre are very different words and conjure up very different images. The average height for males in the US is between 5'8" and 5'10" to call a guy who is 5'9" a midget would be inaccurate. I know it may feel like just semantics but it's really not, these words are very different. If we use the terrible or horrible label for Much what do we use for guys like Bobby Petrino and Nick Saban? Those dudes are terrible. Much was average.

To a certainty if Whiz floats around 8-8 for two years there will be a surplus of people flipping out in TitansLand wanting his head on a stick.
I guess that irrationality comes with the territory but there remains an argument that longevity at the job is an attribute to building a team. We still have Fisher era players on The Titans..

I always go back to the stat that to date no HC has won the Super Bowl with two separate teams.
I'd say that means there's a whole lot of luck involved in winning - and I don't mean "the way the ball bounces" on gameday luck but being in position to draft the right people, injuries to a star player and so on..

I know what you mean. But IMO, Munch was a really bad HC (and I've laid out the reasons I feel that way plenty of times over the past year or so). So I don't feel I'm exaggerating too much when I call him "terrible". Deuce thinks he was a good coach, or just had "bad luck" or whatever. Fine. It's his prerogative. Where I take issue is when he comes at me throwing around crap like "halfassed analyst" (really rich coming from him BTW) and "illogical fan" just because he has a different opinion (which of course is the minority opinion). Did Munch have some bad luck along the way? Yes. Was he still a bad HC? Yes. This is in the NFL. You don't get to just roll out the excuse train after 3 years and call for a mulligan. You're judged by what you accomplish (or fail to accomplish) not by "what could have been if X, Y, and Z hadn't happened".

One things for damn sure, watching him coach my team for 3 years made me feel terrible.

I don't think we'll flip out like the houston fans did, i mean, they REALLY went crazy, burning schaub jerseys and such.

I'm not gonna call for whiz's head if we go 8-8 for two seasons straight, there's lots of hurdles that need to be overcome for us to get better, And because I'm a titans fan, so 8-8 ain't a bad stretch for us, because it's almost become the norm... lol

Patience is key, We got the best coach out of the bunch this year, And I wanna see what happens, I'm hopeful and excited, but not demanding instant results, either.
