Again you look at these super star WRs like Calvin Johnson, Andre Johnson, and Fitzgerald who were legitimate top 10 guys. Sure they have improved their teams and been total studs, but only Fitz has been to a SB. Other guys haven't even sniffed it.

Watkins is shorter than you would like and although he is fast his combine numbers weren't outrageously good. He is a baller and if we happened to draft him it would be exciting because of the type of player he is, but in the long run it wouldn't be the smartest move.

Agree with all the thoughts in this thread. I think he's being massively overrated draft-wise. He's being treated like Julio Jones and AJ Green when to me he's more like a Torrey Smith with better open field moves.Note this is not a diss, I think Torrey Smith is an underrated BOSS.

6'1" is not smaller than what you'd like.

There we're 10 guys in the NFL under 6'1" who topped 1000-yards last season. 6'1" at WR is good.

I think he means in relation to other top 5-10 WR prospects in the past. Julio Jones, AJ Green, Larry Fitz, Megatron, etc.

Those 6'5" guys are rare though, and usually too rigid to play once their speed fades.

I remember when a 6'2" was considered huge, now its the standard.

True, but it's what we've come to expect from top 5 WR prospects. Remember when 5'10" was considered GREAT size for a corner. Now guys under 6'0" are looked at like midgets.

What Urban said...Many mocks have Watkins going top 5 and I haven't seen a single one with him dropping out of the top 10. If you are drafting top 5 then you are in need of a QB/OT/Pass Rusher. You should not be looking at WR unless he is just totally the BPA and a super stud. I just don't think that Watkins fits that bill.

As a DC what worries you the most about Watkins? Is it that he is going to physically cause a mismatch? not really. Is it that he is just sooo fast that he forces you to play off man because overwise he will blow right past your CB? not really...he is fast but not crazy fast So Watkins really isn't going to pull coverage like the BIG STUD WRs.

As a DC Im most worried that he's going to catch the football.

I agree. You worry about him when he has the ball in his hands. So Watkins on a very good day might impact your defense 10 times. The BIG STUD WRs impact the way that your defense plays on almost every single play because you have to adjust your defense to them or you know they are going to kill you.

I like Watkins and won't throw some crazy fit if we draft him because I love having electric players on the field. The excitement in the stadium is just awesome when you know you have a guy who can change the game in an instant. PacMan returning kicks, Kearse flying around the backfield, Haynesworth throwing OL around before smashing the QB, VY and Mac9 leading game winning drives and CJ busting loose. Playmakers are fun to watch, but they don't always help you win championships.

Probably because people are scared to draft offensive players from USC.
