Maybe its just me but i'm willing to bet as time goes on we are going to see more and more second and third round QB's becoming successful in the draft. In the 2011 draft first round QB's Jake Locker,Blaine Gabbert and Christian Ponder all have not panned out but second round picks Andy Dalton and Colin Kaepernick have both been to the postseason in each of their first three seasons.

In 2012 Robert Griffin,Ryan Tannehill and Brandon Weeden all were first rounders that haven't done much but third round picks Russell Wilson won the Super Bowl and Nick Foles made the postseason and threw 27 TD's and only 2 INT's.In the fourth round Washington picked Kirk Cousins and there are already rumors about him being traded to a team who needs a QB.

Finally last year in 2013 Buffalo picked EJ Manuel in the first round,NY Jets picked Geno Smith in the second round. However the QB with the best stats was Tampa Bay's third round pick Mike Glennon who could possibly be on the outs with a new regime coming in thats already traded for another QB.Philadelphia seems like they got a good QB in Nick Foles and in 2013 a year after picking Foles in the third round they picked Matt Barkley in the fourth.

The first round QB's do hit but in the last three years it seems like more and more second, third and even fourth rounders are showing promise at the QB spot.I could be wrong but i think Garoppolo will be one of the best QB's to come out of this draft and he is a second round pick most likely.I wouldn't mind waiting until the second and grabbing Garoppolo or Murray,Mettenberger or McCarron bit later in the draft.

Basically what i'm saying is take the 2014 draft for example.Bortles,Bridgewater,Manziel and Carr are all possible first round picks.Players like Garoppolo,Murray,Mettenberger,McCarron,Boyd,Fales are all QB's that will be picked in the second round or later. However once the smoke clears down the line i guarantee without a doubt that some of the six players i listed that were second rounders and up will be more successful than the four guys i had listed that will most likely go in the first round.

And we have holes to fill on defense.

I don't really get this topic. So because Foles and Wilson played well and Cousins might be traded it's pointing to a trend of mid round QBs suddenly becoming successful in the NFL?

Not likely. What's more likely is that Russell Wislon dropped because he was short and Foles/Chip Kelly's offense were new to the league. Lets see how the Eagles do with an offseason for defenses to adjust.

    And Kirk Cousins also sucks.

The worst teams in the league get first pick. Sometimes even a stud Qb can't turn a terrible team around. 80% of the playoff qbs were taken in the first 40 picks. Bad argument, but thanks for playing.

Kaepernick and Wilson have the best defenses in the league and Dalton has a top 10 d as well so it's not a fair argument to say that these QB's "led" their team to the playoffs, they're great QB's, but they aren't the reason their team is in the playoffs.

However, Andrew Luck is the reason the Colts made playoffs, no one can argue that.

Like it has already been said teams that take a 1st round qb usually need one and throw them straight onto the field, the guys that get picked up later are teams that are already good and just need depth. Foles only got a shot because vick went down, he did have success in a new scheme however. The guys that get picked early usually have the most upside but aren't successful at first because they are on crap teams. We have a good team with only two big need, pass rusher and a qb ( they happen to be the most important two positions). If we take a qb early that the fo thinks is a franchise guy and fits with our team, we will be in the playoffs his rookie year.

And btw none of those qbs you listed as later round guys will ever be considered great. Wait and see, they are all on stout teams that they don't carry

Wilson COULD be great. He has a great work ethic, leadership skills, a strong arm & he is smart with the football.

    He already is great.

    - 24-8 record as a starter
    - 4-1 record in the playoffs
    - Super Bowl Champion in his second season
    - Best passer rating any QB has ever had in his first two seasons

Best QB of the 2012 class - and I considered that to be a clear fact by the second half of his rookie season. Now, there's just no doubt about it... unless you like a QB who turns it over 9 times in 3 playoff games (Andrew Luck).
