At this point in time it is unrealistic to get them to settle for $5 million a year. But had we given them a new deal even before they went into the final year of their rookie deals it would have been much easier to lock them up. The point is moot now but I am being more critical of the way our FO has dealt with our players in the past.

Prime example is AH, had we locked him up long term before the year we tagged him we definitely would have been able to get him signed well below the $100 million range he got in DC. Same with McCourty and Griffin, we gave them huge deals optimistically hoping that they would play up to those salaries instead of paying them what they are actually worth.

Before his last year, why would we have wanted AH?

McCourty wasn't a 'must' keep before he got his contract. You are implying that some of these guys are sure fire players from the get go.

If we had "locked up" AH, he would have spent 2008 in the Micky D's drivethrough, and probably could have only managed 10 snaps a game.

He was great in 2007 as well. Pro bowl player. He really started turning it on a couple seasons before 2008.

AH was only playing to be paid.

It worked and Snyder paid him

fat Albert would have been a waste for the Titans just like he was for the Redskins.

that was a classic case of the Titans knowing who/what they had and making the right decision

even looking back with hindsite the real bonehad pay them or let them go decisions have been few and far between

We passed up on Eddie George, Jevon Kearse, Albert Haynesworth, Keith Bulluck, and Cortland Finnegan, watch us let Verner walk.

Both Bulluck and Eddie were past their prime, and Kearse couldn't be kept due to cap reasons. Finnegan is really the only player in a comparable situation.
