I don't think anyone here honestly believes that Munch is the only thing wrong with this team. Or that getting rid of him magically "solves everything". But the point is that he simply isn't making things better. He's not putting this team in the best position for success. 3 years on the job, 3 years of no playoffs. 3 years of not being able to beat good teams (or very bad teams for that matter). And furthermore, this team STILL does not have an identity.

It takes a perfect storm to win a Super Bowl. It's certainly not all about the HC. However, HC is a very significant part of the equation.

Not everything. He went out and got the right pieces (actually webster did, but we can say munch did for the sake of this discussion), but then he hands them over to an inept OL coach that can't develop squat.

IMO the biggest mistake Munch has done is not surrounding himself with the right assistants. I really don't think it takes much to be an HC. Really you are just overseeing what goes on and making high level decisions. It all depends on who you decide to surround yourself with to help develop your team that will make or break an HC. Munch decided to surround himself with buddies that aren't very good coaches.

You put any RB not named Chris Johnson back there and that O-Line is suddenly not so sh*tty.

Possibly. I had NFL Insiders on as background noise and I thought I heard them say Coughlin was still in the undecided camp. Although you'd think a two-time Super Bowl champion and head coach of a New York team being in jeopardy of termination would be a more prominent headline.

I would be totally with you except for the fact that he explicitly said he was going to be hands on with the O-line and spend a lot of practice time with them so the idea that he just "handed the off" doesn't fly with me. I see where you're coming from though. Firing Lowry and hiring Chet seemed like odd/unnecessary moves that seemed to hurt the team. I say seemed because we can't truly know that the LB's taking a step back is Chet's fault (thought it sure seems that way) and I think our special teams woes has little to do with losing Lowry and more to do with incompetent returners. The plus side of this is that if Munch does return I'm sure he will be required to make changes to his staff so there might be a silver lining after all.

Got it, I'll call Javon Ringer. If we're lucky he might possibly still be available.

Actually if Ringer had anything going for him it was his vision.

Dude you are on a damn roll. It is impossible to argue against your logic at all. This season Munchak and Webster really did all they could to improve the weak spots and it just didn't work out. Can't say they didn't try to get better, can't say they didn't address the needs because they did.

well, we had the same returner last year as we did this year ... but yeah, Reynaud f#cked us on more than one occasion this year.

In all honesty though, if Munch fired Matthews and brought in a real OL coach and promoted Greg Williams to DC, then let Williams decide what to do with the coaches on that side of the ball, then I would be ok with letting Munch stay.

Like I said the only real problem I have with Munch is some of his questionable hires.

I think what you meant to say was put anyone behind this oline and they'll look exactly the same, just at a discounted rate.
