Ok, so I was looking at that Verner thread about him being let go or resigned and it got me thinking. How many Titans Drafted Defensive Players have been resigned from their original rookie deal in the history of the team?

I had never really thought about it before. But when I started thinking about all the different players who have come and go throughout the years. It seems the Titans almost NEVER resign their defensive players even if they are Star players that made our team better. Even going back to the early years, the team seems to put all its resigning $ into the Offensive players or back into FA over trying to pay the players they already have.

How can that be true? Help me if I am wrong. But besides Michael Griffin. Is there ANY Defensive Veteran that was drafted by the Titans on the current roster? I can't think of anyone.

And if you think before Griffin. Who did the Titans resign before him? Keith Bulluck got one new deal but not a 2nd. Kearse nope, Tulloch nope, Haynesworth probably good it didnt happen, but maybe he would never have sucked had he not left Fisher's leadership.

What do you guys think about this? Are almost ALL the past Titan defensive drafted players just not THAT good to be worth resigning? Is the front office against keeping star Vets unless they are really really special in their eyes? How can teams like the Ravens resign Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Terrell Suggs, Ngata etc for multiple contracts past their rookie deal and the Titans just let all their guys go?

I wanted to start this thread because it seems like a flaw in the Titans system. What is the point of drafting well and finding that stud player if you arent going to keep him? Just let him go to another team and make them better and force us to then settle for left overs in FA or start the draft lotto all over again.

Finnegan got a contract. He didn't get a second.
Jason McCourtey got a new contract.

Most of our current guys are pretty new though.

We resigned heaps in the early days (Bishop, Rolle, Robertson) but since then we haven't had a real star on the team worth resigning long-term.

Samari Rolle got a contract too.

There are other players of course who have signed a contract extension, but I get the point in that we almost hardly never resign star defensive players.

I can say that I can't blame them for not resigning Haynesworth or Kearse at the time, due to their extremely high demand for big time money.

    One contract.

Sure he did. Finnegan did not get a third.

Is there a star we made a mistake not resigning? BTW Rolle does not count as he was cut.

I've been pleased with the way the Titans have been with defensive players.

Their frugal behavior seems to have been justified about every time.

The only time I think I cringe is when we let McNair go. Even then though, the guy was on his last legs.

Ok ok, yea I remember now, cause he was a 7th round pick who was getting like league minimum from his rookie deal. I guess I was thinking after he became a pro-bowl CB why they didnt sign him to another deal.
