Opinions On Roster Scenarios Going Into Next Season

I think he is cashing out, especially with JMac talking about playing his last games with him.

Like who? I cannot think of too many players who went on to have great careers after leaving Tennessee. Maybe I am just blocking them from memory lol

Most were actually worse once we let them go. It's just been tradition for the Titans not to offer up a second contract to alot of our players. I'm hoping that's not the case with Verner, we did it with McCourty & Verner also deserves it. He doesn't seem like the player who will show reduced effort after his contract year -- could be wrong.

We have the $$$, we need to ditch Stewart & Wimbley. If I remember correctly, Stewart is set to make ~$7mil next year (#1 RT) & Wimbley ~$7mil (#8 DE). Neither are worthy of that type of money.

 

Rolle and Mason were cap casualties. We got burned because of Floyd Reese's overspending. Odom and Williams, that sucks. Blount was Fisher stupidity. Was not really here long enough to develop. Cook, well, Walker is a better player at half the cost. Could add Jacob Bell to that list. Jon Runyan too if you want to go far back.

I agree with you on Verner not showing reduced effort. Has always seemed like a character guy. Also agree on Stewart and Wimbley. Stewart is in an option year so there would be no dead cap money. There would be dead cap money with Wimbley though. I think net savings is around $2.5 million. Still worth it IMO.

 

Stewart is on a player option, I believe -- he's not turning down $7 million.

 

Yeah but if we cut him I do not think there is a cap hit. His SB has already been covered.


Craig Stevens is another guy we can cut. Would save us $2.4 mil. Nate, who would be tough to lose, would save us $4.8 mil. Touch choice. Bironas would save us $3 mil.

Charles this year is way ahead of CJ in catches and receptions for a single season. Ill admit it is an outlier season and CJ has similar seasons to Charles otherwise.


Well regardless, CJ definitely doesn't look as good as Charles has this season. If he did, we would be in the playoffs.

 

I was just being a wiseass. I know there's no way we'd cut McCourty but I do believe that Verner is the one we should have locked up long-term after letting Finnegan walk. JMac is ok but I believe Verner is better. I think we jumped the gun by giving JMac such a huge contract because now Verner will be able to ask/probably receive at least the contract JMac got.
