UT Basketball: Bring Bruce Back

    UT basketball has been garbage since Bruce was fired. Bruce's teams always played with fire and passion as they made deep tourney runs. He was a great guy who loved his job and his city. Tickets were difficult to come by for his games. Now, a third of the stadium or more is empty, and the fans who are there boo the team.

    I remember seeing him around campus while he was here, and he just looked like the happiest guy alive. I get that he made a mistake, but UT needs to suck up whatever penalties the NCAA will give us for the next year and get our coach back. If not, we'll be watching Bruce win a championship somewhere else. He will be a HUGE get for some program.

    I'm starting to lose my patience with UT.. They wrongfully fired Fulmer and now seem like they don't want one of their greatest coaches back. If UT lets him go somewhere else, they can f**k off. I already hate the school, and the once dominate athletic program that I love is now bring driven into the ground.

    I guarantee you it won't happen. The fans love him, but he is hated by some who worked with him.

    The players like Cuonzo better than Bruce as well.

    I loved Bruce, he and Pat Summit were a riot..

    but Fulmer's firing was long past due

    Just curious, what makes you think the players like Cuonzo better than Bruce? Bruce was fired up, CCM puts me to sleep. Bruce has organized plays, CCM lets them freeball and doesn't properly utilize talent. And most importantly, Bruce wins.

    Fire one of the greatest coaches (arguably THE greatest coach) to have coached at your program one year after winning the SEC East, and losing to the eventual BCS Champs by 7 in Atlanta? His career record is 152-52. It's rare to find a coach like that.

    I guarantee you if UT could have seen the next five years, they would not have fired Fulmer. I'll agree that he got a bit lazy as a recruiter and was starting to wind down as a coach, but he shouldn't have been fired at the time in my opinion. Stuck up UT fans begged for him to be, and they got what they deserved. 5 years of garbage.

    BP won a Div II national championship with my school in the 90s. (USI) He went from here, to the Wisconsin school, then to UT.

    Our main strip on the westside of town is named after him (pearl Drive)

    All I heard from him, and I had his assistant coach/replacement after he left for a class.. is that he leaves a trail of grease and dirt everywhere he goes. He lived about a mile from me, and I hear he was a major arrogant P#$#K.

    His replacement coach got fired for ethical/cheating reasons, too. It runs in the Pearl coaching tree.

    I can't see that at all. I remember seeing him around campus all the time, and he would always stop to take pictures with fans and sign autographs. He supported the entire athletic department and made everything better. At least on the outside, he seemed to love and be loved by everyone. I'll look into what went on inside the department a bit more though, it just doesn't seem like his character.

    Oh, he's definitely a sleazebag. Just Wikipedia him.... his most recent NCAA cock-up was not his first run-in with trouble. For every one mess-up you hear about, there are probably 30 that never see the light of day to the NCAA or media.

    He was loved, because he won. Just like Calipari is loved by Kentucky fans, and hated by everyone else.
    And you have to keep appearances up to and for your school's fans.

    OJ Simpson signed a lot of autographs, and smiled, too :)

    But he does win, wherever he goes.

    Tennessee hiring coaches should be kept to a minimum at all costs. They are really awful at it.

    Bruce ain't coming back.

    I've had classes with several of the bball players, and they straight up come out and say that stuff in class.

    I think they just like Cuonzo more on a personal level... they're able to relate more to him and he's a better mentor - to them, at least.
