David Shaw is 34-6 at Stanford. Jim Harbaugh was 29-21.

Granted the program was built up when he took over but he has only made it better. His success post Andrew Luck has to turn any head and he has beaten the most talented team in his conference 2 straight years.

Shaw came to Stanford initially to coach the passing game though his teams have averaged 100 more rushing attempts than passing attempts every year. His teams are among the toughest and most physical in the country. Something the titans are not.

Shaw has worked with good people. When he was young he was a quality control guy and QB coach for the Raiders when Gruden was there. He worked with Bill Callahan and Marc Trestman 2 good offensive minds.

I'd also definitely add Vic Fangio to that list... the DC of the 49ers... he's done wonders there in terms of D since his arrival in 2011

    Greg Roman..

For a guy in his early 40s he has as much experience as a guy can have. 9 years as an o-line coach, 3 years coaching TEs and QBs and the 5 years he has been an OC for Harbaugh 3 of them now with the 49ers.

Roman and Shaw are both in their early 40s and probably very hungry to succeed as nfl coaches. I don't want a name coach who is just looking for a big pay check. I want a younger hungrier guy.

The obvious issue for Roman is how much Harbaugh's success would rub off on him. Working for a great head coach does not automatically mean success for his people look at the failures of Bellichick's coordinators as head coaches. Still has to be a positive to work for a guy like that.

Nobody mentions him but obviously he has done a great job and probably with more independence than what Roman has given that his head coach was an nfl QB for so long.

It's not sure if serious, not can't tell if serious.

Someone posted that Shaw isn't likely to leave. Of course it is the infamous "sources" but would be a shame if we don't try (or even worse, he goes to the Texans).

Does anyone want the guy, Darrell Bevel, we were rumoured to be looking at a couple of weeks ago in the Cutler, CJ etc thread?

This probably won't be popular. But no, I don't really want him. It's more a gut feeling than anything else. If Seattle never drafted Russell Wilson would his name even be in the discussion? Highly unlikely IMO.

Yeah I think those two round out my top 5, along with Horton, Zimmer, and Lovie.
