I don't consider Martin a p****. Being combative and looking for a fight doesn't make you tough. To me Incognito is the coward for picking on someone he knew would not defend himself.

Martin is a smart guy who clearly has enough talent to be drafted in the second round of the NFL draft. He played in a very smash mouth system against good competition at Standford and held his own enough to be taken in the 2nd. I don't base a guy's toughness on how miserable he can make other people and whether he uses violence to solve his problems or not. Martin is being branded a coward for handling this without violence and using the resources available. Isn't that what we teach our children? Isn't that the way we as a "society of laws" should conduct ourselves?

I find it interesting the same people who are on here constantly blasting Kenny for minor legal violations are the same who are blasting Martin for handling his problems within the scope of the law. What's sadder is that they then side with Richie Incognito a known degenerate and if this golf story is to be believed alleged sex offender. Keep it classy guys, your hypocrisy is showing.

I'm not gonna say he's a p***y but it does shock me he didn't even try to retaliate. It's basically human nature is all I'm saying. Not a single one of us would have been mad at him if he beat the pulp outta Richie during practice. I think there's a reason he didn't... The teammates do not support him. Something must be catastrophically screwed up for basically his entire team to be like... "Eh well Richies a good dude" and take pop shots toward Martin. Martin even got the go ahead from Ireland....

Also Martin had went on record saying he didn't hold it against them because he understood it was "part of football." So clearly there is a disconnect with this story.

It's personal preference/environment raised in that creates differences. Growing up I was always told that if someone started ish with me to stand my ground. I wasn't ever told to throw blows unless they swung first, then I was encouraged by all means to beat the **** outta the kid.

I'm pretty sure most people here were told the same.

Im in no way saying Richie was right with his racial harassment and bullying. Just that there are two sides to the coin in this situation, neither in my opinion is right or wrong. Martins timing is what I question, plus his statement. Honestly, kid could just see this as an easy Money grab, I mean... He's a bust at this point and I'm sure he knows it. His nfl time is probably limited. (Richie is clearly at fault regardless)

 

I've actually been thinking about something lately. I this was a story about Incognito a big lineman bullying let's say a punter. Would as many people be so hesitant to believe his story?I only ask because it seems to me that the most incredulous part of the story to most people is that Martin a 6'5" 300+ pounder would allow himself to be bullied this way. People look at the physical aspect of this and barely give any real thought to the psychological aspect of this. Yeah people have said "I know Martin has mental issues" however there's always a "but" afterwards.To me there is no but. If we remove the sizes of the two people involved it's a pretty cut and dry situation.

In one corner we've got rude, crude, popular "Player A". A veteran with a checkered past who has a reputation as a hard ass. This guy is not only extremely popular with all the players but also has a leadership position given to him by the coaches and players. In the other corner we've got "Player B", a mild mannered, Harvard educated young man born to a well to-do family. "Player B" is a quiet guy who mostly keeps to himself and is barely a part of a locker room full of guys that come from rough backgrounds. He is isolated from his team who can't relate to him, and find him so unfamiliar that they nickname him "Big Weirdo". Player B also has undisclosed mental issues.

If we take size out of this would anyone be shocked that "Player A" has a huge amount of power over "Player B" in almost every conceivable way? In this scenario the victim isn't just facing off against the aggressor he's on his own against the entire organization. We've all seen how many Dolphins had his back right?

 

I agree, and the size argument of course doesn't hold water. Frankly, just cause they are similar sized monsters doesn't make one more applicable to being aggressive. Also just because he comes from said family doesn't make him any less aggressive. Neither does where he went to school. It *could* have a difference depending on his upbringing... But that's still just a shot in the dark. It is probably a good argument, I will agree, just playing devils advocate that "do good family" doesn't guarantee a certain type of temperament.

The difference, the major key to him being scared... Is the entire locker room was like.... F this kid, dudes a bust. Richie is a bully, saw the mild mannered cat and went to town.

Martin is still going to come out of this with dirt on his face though.

 

I threw in the "well to-do" family stuff to illustrate one of the reasons there is such a divide between Jon and his team mates not really speaking on his aggressiveness or toughness. Dudes from tough neighborhoods don't tend to relate to or like "rich kids". I can see how that could have been misunderstood, I wrote it badly trying to get my thoughts out. But yes, I definitely agree with your conclusion of Richie smelling blood in the water. Predators love easy prey.
