What is this blasphemy you speak of? Trying something different when what you've been doing isn't working? HA! That isn't the Titan way Jeff. You know this.

Not that it would really matter at that point. But sure, I guess why not throw Rusty in there. I just wouldn't expect things to be any better.

Munch & Co. obviously know these guys better than anyone here does. And like it or not, there was a reason we cut a QB who had already been here 3 years. And there was a reason no other team wanted him. There was a reason he was on the practice squad a few weeks ago.

So we're going to throw this guy in there against one of the top defenses in the league? With zero run game to assist him? Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it would necessarily hurt at that point. But I have very little faith it would help any.

Exactly. Rusty was kept around on the practice squad for precisely this situation. To be an ABSOLUTE last resort. He's not necessarily here for his talent. But because he's been around for years and knows the system. We're probably better off with him than a guy like David Carr who would have to start from square one midseason.

That said, we are pretty well farked if we are ever in a position where we need to rely on Rusty or some scrub off the street to quarterback this team.

Exactly. The odds are horrible but I don't get the "it can get worse" mentality when you're already down 21-0.

I'd hope Munch would go down using every resource at his disposal.

With the new info that Locker is cleared to hit, it hopefully ends this possible scenario.

Unless you are Tyler Thigpen playing the Titans.

The Titans have a thing for letting awful, young QBs beat them. I don't know what it is. Ryan Leaf, Thigpen, Luke McCown, Chad Henne, and god knows who else.

seriously I bet we are like 0-8 against back up qbs in the last 8 games and probably beyond that. it kills me to watch us get not just beat but destroyed by back up qbs, and backup rbs, and back up te's and back up everything. I swear if we were playing Houston this week with case keenum hed probably destroy us. nah actually never mind I think we have turned a corner here and are done with those shenanigans. BRING IT ON BACKUPS!

Im not a Fitz fan by any means, but they paid him to be a backup QB in case Locker went down. You dont give up on a player you have invested that much money into, and put faith into, to fill that role, just to give up on him after 2 bad games (with extenuating circumstances. Line, Run game, drops, ect)

Reynaud doesnt give up a free TD (and being an awesome contributor in a safety), a BS late hit call doesnt happen, and the outcome of the KC game is different and we are a 4-2 team.

Fitz is making mistakes, and yes he is trying to do too much, but he is not the one costing us the games. He is a contributor (throwing ints always bad) and I am not trying to deny that, but we can still win with Fitz if BS doesnt happen that should not happen at this level of football. He just cant be asked to do so much. We can steal beat top teams if we would stop with the stupid.

Even down 21-0 and 3 ints, you keep going with Fitz until he shows nothing happens in the 3rd quarter (a couple drives at least). I really dont like Fitz at all, but Smith isnt going to do anything. We are the only team that wants him, every other team had a chance to improve their top 3 QB's but he stayed unemployed until he called.

If this were to occur, the likelihood of Fitz bringing the team back is FAR LESS, IMO, than trying Rusty.

And we need to remember in gauging his value vs. other teams #3 is that he would have had to be put on an active 53-man if picked up off waivers. Even if a team felt Rusty was as good as their current #2, he wouldn't know the playbook, have the relationships, etc. as the current backup. Few teams are keeping three QBs anymore.

Besides, let's not pretend we're talking about Rusty as a solid #2 in this league. What we're talking about is him being better than a QB who just threw three INTs in one half, is down 21-0 after two games with an average of a 51.0 passer rating.

I don't see what Munch would have to lose.

Rusty Smith provides a certain harmony, thats why he's around. He's like Jake's little bltch. Drives him around town, picks up his lunch, irons his jersey, keeps his seat in the QB room warm. The same way rappers need fluffers, Jake needs his little buddy around. A 2 QB meeting room is a lonely place, that 3rd guy creates a dynamic between the QB's.
