For those of you that missed it, last night PBS aired League of Denial, "a revelation of the hidden story of the NFL and brain injuries". The link below sums up the program quite nicely for anyone interested in the NFL's coverup of concussions. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on...he-frontline-pbs-documentary-league-of-denial

Recently the NFL had agreed to a $765 million settlement deal with thousands of former players who sued the league. At first glance you say that's a win for the players accusing the league of withholding information, but in reality its a win for the league. Whats $2 million/yr for 20 years to the 31 owners of multi billion dollar empires? Nothing more than a drop in the hat is what...

I mean dont get me wrong, Im in the camp that says these old players knew what they were getting into, but who am I to say they even knew what they were signing up for? Before modern era football most people didnt know the effects of brain injuries.

So here we are today and PBS's documentary is out. But why out AFTER the NFL settled? The program has been ready to be aired for months. Anyways, just thought some fans here might care to know what the NFL doesn't want anyone knowing.

Junior Seau is somewhere looking at this shaking his head. I really hope for footballs sake no more lawyers file class action lawsuits, because guys, I hate to break it to you, we may lose football some day. We all love tearing down Roger Goodell, but if safety issues aren't addressed, this league will vanish.

Here you can see the documentary in its entirety, I encourage everyone to sit down and watch this. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/league-of-denial/

I don't think we'll ever lose football. People will still want to play, and continue to make money off of it. I can't see the government deeming it illegal.

I could see it turning into a glorified Flag football game, though.

Like Canada and Russia, and a lot of Europe with Hockey. It's not going anywhere. They can outlaw fights, and even hits, to a certain extent.. but they will never take away the sport.

Drinking alcohol causes brain damage and it is not going anywhere.

    Start using soft helmets.

I am on the side of believing that adults can decide to do whatever they want with their own bodies, but it's really messed up how the NFL hid evidence about concussions and basically ruined the lives of some doctors who were doing important research in the area of head injuries.

If players are being denied all the pertinent information, then you can't say they are truly consenting to the risks of pro football.

I think they should just play all sports in Sumo fat suits.. and all risks are now eliminated. Tell me that wouldn't be more fun to watch!

Soft helmets is often suggested as a solution, but they wouldn't necessarily solve the problem. Hard helmets prevent skull fractures, not concussions. Concussions are caused by the brain banging around inside the skull. No helmet (hard or soft) can prevent that. It's just inertia.

Softer hits and tackles to the body, not the head are the answer. Soft helmets might help with that. They might not help much, though.

I just finished watching League of Denial. For those that have followed the story not much new is presented, but the entirety of the problem is laid out quite nicely and it's certainly worth watching regardless of your familiarity with the subject.

Not sure I can think of a workable solution to this problem, but I am relatively certain that whether it survives well into the future or not, football as we know it has reached its apex as a sport. Unless the sport changes radically, as the issue with brain trauma becomes more accepted knowledge, I can see less and less parents allowing their kids to play football, and as that talent pool diminishes the overall quality of the sport itself will be lessened (very much like boxing).

The best solution Ive come up with after following this somewhat closely is to utilize the other equipment like; helmets, chinstraps neck rolls, mouth pieces, etc. All of them used together properly with reduce the chances of a concussion drastically.

IDK how many concussions could be stopped by doing this, but what I do know for sure is many concussions happen when one of those key pieces of equipment isn't used. Just buckle up and play smart.
