I feel like he finally turned the corner the past couple weeks and was on his way to putting together a great season. This injury came literally at the worst time possible - just when Jake looked like he could become a legit QB in this league.

He was going to throw for 5 TDs against the Jets and prove all the haters wrong. The Jets were a top 5 pass D (and held Brady and the Pats to 13 points). He was going to build on these last couple weeks and lead us to the playoffs. No doubt in my mind.

I was never a Locker hater. I always defended him and said to give him time to develop (because he's started very few games). But after seeing him the last two weeks, I became a believer. I just hope when he comes back he is able to pick right back up where he started and continued on his success.

Nothing worse than the haters being right about him and being able to say "told ya"... And the worst part is a lot of our own fans enjoy seeing him fail just so they can be right about a stupid prediction they made.

I'm sorry but I just have no faith in Fitzpatrick. I was happy we signed him as our backup, but that doesn't mean I wanted him to start. He's a turnover machine. That's the bottom line. And like I said earlier, the Bills sure do look better without him. Let's hope I'm wrong though!

Just to understand your point, what is a 'fair share' of MULTIPLE TURNOVER games???

And furthermore, no one expects us to never turn the ball over. But we need to turn it over less then the other team and preferably, not at all. And while we are 'built' to keep it close (meaning we can and have a good chance to win), we certainly have the skill players to go for a high scoring shootout. I forget which week it was, but if I remember correctly 3 of the top 5 highest passing yard QB's LOST. I'd much rather win the turnover battle and turn them into TD's rather then play a style of football more conducive to turnovers. But that's just me.

And while we are 'built' that way, did you notice Locker threw 3 TD's and for about 150yds in the first half against a top 3 D? It looks like how we are built is working just fine so far:)

What are you saying here Locker=Peyton and Fitz=whatever his name was two years ago? Wow just wow!

Fitz is one of the best backups in football. The last three years he threw for 3000+ yrds on a terrible buffalo team.
With our d creating turnovers like they have been all we have to do is commit less than they create and we will be fine.

The GOOD news is, we don't have a 7th round rookie QB who has never played in a real NFL game as our starting QB. Fitzy is a vet with a ton of experience and he's smart.

Not to absolve him of his turnovers, but he had one of the worst OL's in front of him and had to try to carry the offensive load. He also had 1 or 2 weapons on offense.

What's different? Even though our OL has not been as stout in pass protection as I expected, it is much better then what he had in Buffalo and a lot more talented (read, will keep getting better). We have a stout top 10 D and we have been winning by not turning the ball over. We have a strong run blocking OL and some good RB's and Walker is a nice mismatch security blanket. Fitzy shouldn't feel like he needs to force throws or try to run over ppl just to stay in the game.

BUT, while I think Fitzy SHOULD be much better then when he started in Buffalo, I expect Loggains to help him out with playcalling and philosophy. I expect more quick throws...slants, curls, outs, bubble screens, flares to CJ...etc. While we don't want to expose him to a heavy pass rush on 3rd and long, he has a lot more experience reading defenses.

While his numbers aren't staggering and KC is a much different team, Fitzy has played well against them in the recent past. I'm more concerned about our running game. Gonna rewatch the game to see what was going wrong on so many runs. And unlike some of you, I don't think the Jets were loading the box as much as you think. Their DL is beastly!

By "fair share of multiple turnover games" I just meant that IF Jake started 16 games this year I'm sure he would've had at least 4 or 5 games with more than one turnover. And my whole point was that as soon as Fitz throws his first pick everyone here is going to be whining and crying about how much he sucks and how Jake doesn't throw picks. But really, the first two weeks we seemed to play scared on offense and be hiding Jake. When you only throw 20 passes throughout the course of a game you damn well shouldn't have any picks. Then we open it up a bit the last two games and he plays solid, mistake-free football. But still, it was two good games (really a game and a half).

Like I said in another thread, I probably am going overboard in defense of Fitzpatrick. But it's just super annoying how so many people have already wrote the book on his story with the Titans... before he's even had one start. And on the flip side, Locker is being made out to be this elite QB who Ryan Fitzpatrick could NEVER possibly live up to. And what makes it even more humorous is how most of this board didn't think very much of Jake headed into week 3.

My whole thing is, this is exactly why we signed Fitzpatrick. This staff believes he can be a good spot-starter for this team. If they didn't believe that they would've never let Hasselbeck go. He's not going to rip the job away from Locker. He's not going to be our franchise QB. But he's capable of winning some games in a crunch, and that's exactly where we find ourselves right now.

Just sick of all negativity. We should be thankful that we even have a guy of his caliber as our #2. Plenty of teams are a lot worse off.

I did notice that. And I also noticed how all 3 TDs were the result of the defense creating a short field. Those drives were 18 yards, 26 yards, and 46 yards. Not taking anything away from Jake and the offense, because they were surely firing on all cylinders. But a lot of QBs/offenses are going to be successful in those type of situations. Let's not make it out like we suddenly have some elite passing attack just because we scored 3 short-field TDs.

I don't think it's fair to say "a lot". I think there are only a couple of "fans" who actually wanted Jake to fail. And no one really takes them seriously anyway.

Aren't YOU being rather negative expecting him to make multiple turnovers in 'at least' 4 or 5 games? You want people to give Fitz a break? Give Locker a break! You wanna say he's been protected at times, he's had some short fields, blah blah blah. Fact is, the kid has a 99 QB rating and that's top 10...maybe top 5 or so. He's been getting it done pretty well and a lot better then a lot of people thought he ever could be. More importantly, he's been getting BETTER! It's not like he faced SD and ripped them up and then looked like a HS QB facing a top 3 D in the Jets. He was carving them up. Short field's or not, who was the last QB to throw 3 TD's against a Rex Ryan D in a half? I think you will find some rarified air. Not only that, but he's been protecting the Football against 3 excellent defenses. The kid can play, so how about you cut him some slack...

I hear ya. But Jake was playing at a higher level then most thought he could get to and don't know much about Fitzy other then his stats from Buffalo which freaks ppl out. It doesn't help that one of the first articles written about Fitz is that he's been a turnover machine.

    Agreed!

You're missing the point. Yes, most teams SHOULD be 'successful' in the red zone, but at times early this year, we were kicking FG's instead of getting 7's (think we were near the bottom at one point)! Again, take a look at how many QB's threw 3 TD passes in a half against Rex Ryans D when it was a top 5 ranked unit in his tenure. That's not me saying he's Peyton Manning or anything, just showing you it's not a common occurence and should be appreciated. Not only did we score on each of those short fields, we scored 7's and that was Locker throwing all 3. Pretty good for a guy who was being criticized quite loudly after WINNING in week 1.

It's 6th best in the league behind Manning, Rivers, Brees, Rodgers, and Romo.

Uhhhhhh..... what? Where did I say anything negative about Jake Locker? He won me over these past few weeks just like everyone else. I hate the injury just as much as everyone else. Really not sure where this whole part of your post came from.

When I said he would have 4 or 5 multiple turnover games I wasn't meaning that as a knock on him. I was just saying that's to be expected from ANY QB who starts 16 games. Even the elite QBs have their share of turnovers.

My post was intended to talk folks down from the ledge regarding Fitzpatrick, not to slam Jake Locker.
