I'm a huge ATV fan, have been since last year. This year he's been beasting it, I read somewhere that QBR against him is like second lowest in the league, I think it was 36.4 or something like that.

I didn't get the hate on the guy during preseason, but then again I also didn't get the hate on Nate and look how he's playing. The 2 of them are probably my fav guys on the team lol.

Ok, so I read what everyone had to say. My 2 cents, I like threads about DBs because I'm a former DB.

    Kind of long :)

As a corner, speed isn't everything. Ask Winfield. What is? Technique, as a corner you can be so damn good if you have great technique regardless of your speed but without speed you must have good technique. Verner lacks the speed but has great technique which is why he is in the right place at the right time a lot. It is not luck, very dumb to say. His technique, preparation, film study, awareness, instincts, smarts, etc. is the reason why he is in the right place to make plays. The only corner I have ever seen with bad technique and become a great at corner, Deion Sanders because of his blazing speed and athletic ability.

Someone said he doesn't cover the best WR because McCourty is our starter, you're wrong. We don't have our number 1 corner follow opposing number 1 WR. Corners have their side and stick to their side so Verner does see the number 1 WR every game because WRs move around A LOT these days.

I like both McCourty and Verner, both have different strengths and weakness but the best strength I like from both of them, both play physical in the run. They come up and hit and will make a tackle. They put their nose in their both on the run and pass. Love that when corners aren't afraid of contact(Samuel, he scared of hitting). We have the best duo when it comes to run support for corners.

Someone said Verner has been inconsistent, hmm not really. He is actually been one of our most consistent DBs since he was drafted. Always great in the run game and in coverage, still good.

    The career numbers:
    Verner: 2010-2012

    Rated: 23.7 - 257 Target - 164 Receptions - 63% comp - 1,571 yards - 7 TDs - 6 INT - 21 PD

    McCourty: 2010-2012 - 4 less games
    Rated: 34.0 - 266 Target - 165 Receptions - 62% comp - 1,889 yards - 12 TDs - 8 INT - 29 PD

Verner doesn't fit everyone's ideal corner like a Patrick Peterson with size and speed but when you have the football IQ that Verner has with really good technique, you can not take away his talents he has. The dude makes plays because he knows the position so well and obviously study's very well.

So, is Verner top 5? No because first and for most, you have to be at least the starting corner on the team. Is Verner top 5 CB opposite of the first corner? In my opinion, yes. I've always said this, if Verner played in a Tampa 2, he would destroy in that scheme but he has been playing very well in our scheme.

The guy that posted like 33 players above Verner, I think you were just reaching for some. Some of those guys, no way. Seems like you put popular names because of their names. Verner won't get the recognition like other guys will and that is great for us when it comes to dollar signs. Since he isn't the number 1 corner, he won't get a 5 year, 50 mil deal.

As of right now, the present, the first 4 games. Verner is arguably PLAYING the best at his position RIGHT NOW but it doesn't mean he is the best.

He is definitely a player I would love to lock up for a few more years.

    I have 1 question for xpmar9x
How does Verner have less snaps than McCourty? Isn't Verner a starter? He didn't get hurt at any point in 2012, so why doesn't he get more snaps?
