I hear what you're saying but I have a hard time with two things...

First you say that we were running the ball a lot because it worked "well". If you define working well as averaging 2.6 yards per carry then I have issue with that. Again, if we were running and having success the way I define it, say averaging 5+ yards a carry and actually scoring touchdowns then I tend to agree with you.

You also say that we played that way because we had the lead, which we did for most of the game. But what you are describing is Fisherball plain and simple and I've seen us lose too often to be comfortable with that approach to football. Any time a team is two scores away from you I don't believe you can just burn clock, not in this day and age of football.

18/20 with our running game averaging 5+ YPC and scoring points then I'm on board. But not 2.6 :)

in any other game no but it became obvious there o couldn't do a dang thing! they needed to start with a w. why risk a int throwing the ball all around, run that clock get that very important first win!

I'd agree. But the running game doesn't have anything to do with locker bringing his own game up.

Really and big Ben Rapelithsberger has never gotten hot and put points up huh? You just don't want to give a guy like that any chance, he's brought his team back too many times for me.

This is what worries me. Hopefully we see a different plan moving forward.

I know that the running game wasn't very efficient against the Steelers in terms of how many carries it took to get it done. But anytime you move the chains and dominate TOP while maintaining a lead, something is working. I don't expect the Titans to be that run heavy against most teams. But that is just a classic Steeler/Titans game. They are almost always hard hitting, low scoring, smash mouth defensive battles. The team who wins TOP and the turnover battle wins. Injuries usually plays a huge role as well when these two teams play. It would have been very risky trying to air it out a lot against the Steelers using Jake Locker.

No. I'm saying you have to look beyond the average yardage gained per run and look at everything from field position, resting the defense, running clock, etc. vs. the higher risk of passing the football with a lead. Why risk Locker passing it deep on 3rd-and-8 when you can pin Ben and his sorry offense inside the 15?

I remember people coming in here back in 2000 mad about how few points the Titans were winning football games by. "Fisherball" was a dirty word as the Titans rolled to a 13-3 season.

We don't know if this Titans team is better than those teams in coming back from a deficit. I think this team potentially has a much better receiver group and CJ is always a threat. We'll know soon enough because there will come a time a more aggressive passing game will be needed.

I don't see running the football as just burning the clock given the overall situation of that game. It was conservative but I don't know why anyone would want anything else as long as it's working.
