We got our moneys worth out of Wimbley last season. Morgan was transparent until Wimbley showed up. I think he did well and guess what, good or relatively good professional football players in their prime cost big dollars!

Not sure i understand the question. We know what Wimbley's role is, to get to the QB!

And there is no damn way we are paying a guy $6M a year to not start.

It's preseason! We can't judge playing time on preseason!

Other players we are trying to define a role for, especially Pitoutua. We are not going to sit our best pure edge rusher and the advantage of the 4-3 defense is that a guy like him can come off the edge and not worry about coverage like a 3-4 OLB would.

Wimbley is the most predictable player on the defense so he should get the fewest snaps.

Gray made the goal for Wimbley and Morgan very simple. 10 sacks.

I agree we paid a lot for Wimbley last year because we were desperate for an edge rusher but this is a guy who has averaged 7 sacks a season and they honestly thought he was better suited as 4-3 end than how he was used on previous teams.

Last year was a contract year for him and his first in the system so i'll cut him some slack but this is a guy who has to get 8 sacks if healthy all year. That's what he is paid to do. Morgan is the better all around player.

Good thing we're paying him $35 mil.

Limited specialized role... 8 sacks... I wouldn't complain.

However. The thing this team needs more than anything right now is a difference maker on the D line. Just doesn't seem like we have it.

Well that's how I see his role becoming. Yes he should be starting with that sort of money. However I'm curious as to why he's been basically invisible thus far this year.

I'm not saying that's what he is, but if we a trying to keep him fresh and go on defined pass downs, then cool. However, he was weak af against the run last year so I don't think he will see many of those early downs.

That's.... Limited... Or specialized... Maybe I doubled the same ish but whatever.

You guys understand that nickel and dime packages account for 60% or more of the snaps? So how would that be limited?

A starting player normally doesn't play more than 55% of snaps anyway.

They are just trying to maximize the talents we have and since Wimbley is not good against the run we don't have him in those situations.

FYI counting this years salary Wimbley has only made 1/3 of that $35M.

I really doubt that were planning on keeping him for the whole term of the contract.

And at least to this point playing a 6'8 300 lb guy at LE with Morgan at RE has not improved our run defense. We still look soft. Perhaps having a healthy Ayers and Mccarthey will change that.

Yea basically. I'm not saying its a bad thing. And limited doesn't mean "falling off" just used a certain way. Specialized would be the more appropriate for sure tho.

To this point the extra size with Pitotua and Hill has not translated into a better run stopping unit.

They seem kind of soft to me.

Edwards in that #9 role is very encouraging.
