Linebacker Zaviar Gooden impressed coaches right off the bat with his speed and ability, which makes him sitting out now so much tougher for everyone to take.

Gooden, the team’s third round pick out of Missouri, suffered a high ankle sprain early in training camp and has been sidelined ever since. He missed the first two preseason games and is expected to miss all the preseason.

He’s out of the walking boot, but still gets around slowly in a brace.

“I am getting better,’’ Gooden said. “I’m just doing a little more each day.”

If not for the injury, Gooden would be getting an extra long look right now, as the Titans are hurting at the linebacker position. Zach Brown, Akeem Ayers and Moise Fokou all missed practice on Tuesday, along with Colin McCarthy. Ayers won’t play the rest of the preseason, and McCarthy not expected to play either.

After a fast start, Gooden’s currently on hold himself, and he still has a way to go to get to 100 percent.

In the meantime, he’s doing his best to stay up to speed.

“Football is what I love to do, so when that gets taken away it is a little tough,’’ Gooden said. “But I have been watching film still, and been involved in all the walk-throughs and stuff like that, making sure I stay involved mentally so when I get back out there I can just play and not worry about the mental aspect.

“I pay attention so I should be fine when I come back.”

That kinda sucks. I was really looking forward to seeing him play to see if he can be our Zach Brown clone. Having 2 Brown's would be awesome.

He is more raw than Brown which makes it even more frustrating he is out. Since he needs this time. I too think he will work out.

I hope someone can play middle. We have too much potential talent between Ayers, Brown, and Gooden that we can't get all three on the field.

I think they will be one of the BEST LB units in the league if they stay healthy over the next few years. Brown, Ayers, and Gooden would be fun to watch and very fast. Now if only we could get a SOLID MLB that isn't made of glass to throw in the mix, or transition one of these guys into that role.
