That seems to be most defensive players stories. If you can't catch go play D.

I do think too much is made of an inch or two of ht on CBs. Taller guys typically can have decent straight line speed but usually lack short area quickness. Being taller only really helps for the most part on vertical routes anyway. So if you have a guy who is a step slow staying with a guy on his break his extra few inches isn't going to help him at all. And it is very rare to find a guy with the combination of ht, speed and short area quickness in one package.

Now Verner isn't as slow as people make him out to be but he isn't a burner either. So especially on vertical routes he can be potentially beat by a guy who is both fast and tall. But this keeps coming up every year Verner has been here and I don't really remember Verner getting beat on a vertical route where he was expected to have man coverage deep. Possibly because our former schemes rarely put either CB on an island and almost always have deep help.

As far as playing FS I don't think Verner's ht is an issue at all unless he is trying to guard a big TE. But his main issue at FS IMO is going to be more the fact he is only 200 pounds.

The average American male is somewhere between 5'8" and 5'10", about 170-185lbs, and can't catch worth a damn; prime defensive back breeding grounds.

How can a player's spot be numbered when he hasn't played that position?
