I was hoping you guys might be able to help me out on this one.

I am looking to buy a tablet here in the near future...

First, let me start off by saying that I don't want an Ipad. I have an Iphone 5, and as far as IOS devices go, I am pleased with that and do not see the upside of owning 2 IOS devices.

So that leaves Android and... Microsoft/Windows I guess.

    Features I am looking for:
    - Decent Word Processor
    - Flash player?
    - Good internet browser
    - * CAD Software Possible*
    - Attachable Keyboard

    Features I don't care about
    - Camera
    - Apps out the wazoo
    - Video/movie/music capabilities (Minus Flash)
    - Weight/size
    - Screen size

I plan on looking into this more this week, but any tips you guys have would be appreciated. Sorry if I wasn't specific enough, I'm not an expert in these things by any means.

You described an ultrabook or a Surface Pro.

I have a Surface RT and use it everyday. My laptop is dead to me.

Typing took some time to get use to on the touch keyboard. They have a physical keyboard too.

    Ultrabook/tablets will run you $1000+

I have looked into the Surface RT. biggest gripe is that it doesn't run a true Windows OS.

As for the Pro, if I was going to spend 1000 bucks I would just go all out for a good laptop.

So... As far as a Windows 8 OS goes, I am looking at the Dell Latitude 10, and Iconia W510

Know anything about those? Aside from the fact that they run Windows, Ill have to look into them more tommorow.

Samsung has some nifty things coming out soon. One that runs windows and android at the same time. You could link your droid apps to your windows desktop and all. But anyways.. If your getting any sort of a true windows 8 machine, wait for the Haswell chip. Its going to help out battery life a ton, not to mention its all around better than whats out now.

Still don't get the point of tablets, unless people just need another toy.

Or unless for kids, I get them then.

Eh. My iPad was primarily for road travel and Internet whenever I wanted. I also tend to think its more at hand than using my desktop all the time. I take it with me when I go to a friends or anything like that as well. I don't use my phone for Internet at all however.

How do you feel about intel's Atom?

I don't need to be able to play high end games or anything.. But

Can it handle Windows 7? Videos? Internet browsing? Microsoft office?

I used to assist architects with electrical planning, but now it is just a few personal projects I tinker with. I am still in school, but I'm pretty much like every other engineering student in the world trying to some up with the next big thing, lol.

I'm really not that big into CAD, but the professor I work for now is, so... you know..

Oh ok. I've been dabbling with rebar detailing the last six or seven months. You want to talk about a daily cluster****.... I eventually got tired of "See detail S2.3" and the panel being blank. YOU DAMN ENGINEERS! :chairwack:
