I couldn't tell if he was joking or was just an idiot. It wasn't a very funny joke anyway, to begin with. People on youtube use that S$%$ to speak anything and everything, even (even mostly) useless garbage.

Bettman (moron) in the NHL is trying to do a similar thing, tilt the ice towards the offense by changing rules for more scoring. Talking about changing goalie pad sizes and such. Problem is, he's a total moron who allows his league to be locked out entirely too much.. killing any momentum he achieved. If I could swap Goodell to the NHL, I'd be happy about it.

    agree.

Does the UK bend their tax rules exempting the NFL players from paying taxes on that game check?

You are definately right about the bolded part. I think the biggest obstacle in having a team overseas is the lack of a good talent pool there, and those countries don't want to see a bunch of Americans playing an American sport.

But back to your original question ... "Do I think the NFL has less room to expand?". Absolutlely. It is a much more popular sport than NHL/NBA/MLB right now.

"what has changed?". A lot has changed. The times have changed. Technology makes it MUCH easier for any company to go global now. If the MLB/NHL/NBA tried it 20 years ago, they would be at a disadvantge compared to today.

And you can say that 20 years ago the MLB was the NFL, but what does that really mean? ... It may have been more popular than the NFL was at that time, but no sport in the US has ever been as popular, or has made as much money as the NFL does now. The NFL has leveraged television and marketing in ways that no other sport has ever done. You don't see the MLB draft on primetime TV or have months worth of ESPN 'specials' dissecting all the MLB top draft picks. You don't see HUGE multi-BILLION dollar deals with EVERY SINGLE major TV network with the MLB. The last superbowl scored a 48.1 tv rating, compared to 7.6 by the MLB world series last year (even in back in the 80s, no MLB world series scored higher than 29). Plus you have to consider that the population in the '80s was roughly 75million less than it is today, so each rating pt = a lot more viewers since its based on %.

Granted 20years ago, a lot of those avenues just weren't widely available, (24/7 ESPN coverage, internet, etc.) But you can't really compare what the NFL is today to what the MLB/NBA was 20 years ago. The NFL has done a great job of growing the brand here in the US, like any good company would do. The next step for a big company would be to go global.

Now I have my doubts that it would work, and as an NFL fan not sure I even want them to persue it, but I do see it as the next logical step in terms of business.

ESPN does have a ton to do with it. When I had cable and watched ESPN, I was football obsessed, because it was in my face all day. Without cable now, I'm still a fan, just not obsessive about it. It's probably healthier this way. lol.

    OH sure you can...

Not veteran players that know how to save money and are willing to quit, but that is not the majority of the NFL. Rookie gets drafted by London, doesn't want to play there, guess he doesn't want to play in the NFL.

well yea, but thats were the 'good' team remark comes in. You aren't going to last long if you can't field a decent team. Imagine the Texans over there for the first 5 years they were in.

That's why you go with my plan a few pages back and add entire divisions of new teams.

Someone has to win the division, there is the excitement for the new fan base.
