I think you might be getting a bit ahead of yourself. (And also over-generalizing Germans.)

The biggest pro hockey teams in Germany right now draw about 10,000 fans to games at best (and most draw about 5,000). The most successful NFL Europa teams drew about 25,000 fans at best.

The NFL has a long, long way to go before it's a big success in Europe.

Here is another alternative to what Godell is doing.

Get rid of two preseason games, 17 game regular season game schedule. go back to two bye weeks. Every team has 1 international game per year. The NFL could mix those in the season or even just have 1 week dedicated to it. That way they could play a few real games in Canada, 1 in Mexico, hit up Japan,China, Germany, Barcelona, Amsterdam, London, etc.

This really has nothing to do with international, but I still like the idea of 20 game seasons but players can only play in 16 games per season. That way every game counts and it adds strategy on when you sit your best QB, O-line, etc etc. Of course there are drawbacks in that you might see a Pats vs Broncos game where the Pats decide to take the loss and sit all their best players, so a marquee matchup is all of the sudden a yawner.

Teams deciding to throw games by sitting all their best players at once is what would kill that idea. Fans who only had tickets to that game and were basically forced to watch a pre-season game would riot.

    And that's stupid too!

Hockey at least makes sense. It's the game Canada invented and constantly competes at a high level in the Olympics. The interest is obviously there.

Basketball? Not really. The Raptors are always awful and forgotten. I don't think I can name a single player on their roster because they're never on tv or even mentioned. The last time I thought about the Raptors was when Chris Bosh went to Miami and I won't think about them again after this post.

Don't get me started on baseball. Gotta love the inter-league play of the Braves and Blue Jays. The Braves had to hop on a plan to go to Toronto to play two games then hop on a plane to go back to Atlanta to play....the Blue Jays. Brilliant.

Football in Toronto, I could live with that. It would at least fit geographically within the AFC East/North division. But I'll be damned if the Jags get six division games a year with at least an eight hour flight. **** that and **** Goodell.

Myself, I would enjoy the additional strategy/decision making of the HC based on when to sit players. I would also enjoy the added importance of QB#2 on every team.

And then in the playoffs, you get the full best version of each team.

But I agree, there are drawbacks.
