Just got my first invite of the season for one of the leagues I'm in every year. Signed up and went to the pre-draft rankings. There I noticed that CJ is listed as the 28th best player according to Yahoo's default rankings. Below other RBs such as Stevan Ridley and Steven Jackson. Now, I expected him to drop in the rankings given the past two years. I just didn't expect him to fall that far. I guess it's tough to argue though.

So what's the earliest spot you'd draft CJ this year? I wouldn't take him in the first only because I like to go with one of the elite QBs or WRs with my first pick. But if he's there in the 2nd I'd definitely grab him. With this new line he just has too much upside. It seems crazy to think that he could still be sitting there at #28 (3rd/4th round). But that's what Yahoo seems to think.

honestly, 3rd at the highest. He may go higher in some leagues, but that is the max and I doubt I would go that high.

I am changing my draft strategy this year though.

Spill the beans sonny! Did you go qb early last year?

    3rd round???

He's going late 1st/early 2nd no matter what.

I will probably avoid him in the 1st round (all depends on where I'm picking though), but if he's there in the 2nd, I am taking him without a doubt.

you can get FAR more consistent players in the second.

My only issue is that the past few years I seem to take a QB too late... I try to load up on skill players (and I do a great job of that), but I keep getting greedy and thinking a QB I want will fall, and I usually wait one round too long - sometimes just a pick or two off from getting them.

Killed me in 2011. I had by far the best team in the league through the first 6 rounds. I was going to settle for Ruthlessraper or Schaub. They were taken back to back just before I picked in the 7th. Had to settle for Flaccid Flacco... and I made it to the championship. I rotated between the nightmare QB carousel of Flacco, Freeman, Palmer, and Hasselbeck - a disgusting excuse of fantasy QBs.

I ALWAYS go QB in the first unless the guys I want don't make it to where I pick. Ideally I went QB, WR, WR, RB, TE, etc. I putting RB higher because of the guaranteed touches this year.

Of course you can... there are always safe picks. But when a guy like CJ falls to the 2nd with our upgraded OL, I can't pass on him. I'll take the risk. I had high hopes for CJ in 2009 and I took him WAAAAY before he was supposed to go... paid dividends.

I love safe picks, but you absolutely must take at least one or two risks in each draft IMO.
