I have been in education for 15 years (real shi$). 13 years as a teacher, and 2 as an administrator. I say all that to say......you guys are dead on!!! I see so much teacher burn out that most go through the motions. However, you can't beat summers off.

Yup. I took a teacher to task over this same issue at a PTA meeting; No Child left behind was nothing but a test with a paycheck attached to it. Unfortunately, I learned something else before the teacher finally closed the door and told us the truth: I was the only parent there who knew anything about it. The others just kinda looked around and nodded to whatever she said and then were all like "oooh, good question!..." when I asked if they were just teaching tests.

Then they started a lottery to fund education, the primary advocate ran for governor and won and then took all the lottery money for some other crap. Then they decided that they'd push for a state religion.

I swear, I leave NC and in no time everything goes to hell.

the 'public' cannot afford Exeter Academy teaching methods. As much as I agree with you I dont think we can afford any better alternative. Most teachers would be incapable of teaching the Harkness method even if the average student was capable of executing it.

Ditches need dug and whores need pimps. Not everyone needs a college education

Problem is most High School classes are packets and copying definitions from a textbook. Hell, I was a C student in high school, bombed my SAT's and still got into a solid University (after having to take a semester at a junior college) and was a A student in college. You want that "Carpe Diem" stuff and a teacher to "touch your heart", ask your parents to buy you into a private school.

what would make a huge impact, would be to allow student to drop out again. This would encourage more adult education from people who realized they screwed up, and give young adults/teens a chance to make something of themselves after they might have failed.

This makes smaller classrooms, less stress on teachers, and takes the trouble makers out of class.

    You can't be serious.

First I didn't know they couldn't but even if they can't it is incredibly easy to get expelled from public schools.

We already have a problem with drop outs in this country.

Nothing good comes from someone dropping out. We will subsidize their existence at some point.

Now now, are you declaring that everyone without a college/trade degree will end up poor?
