What was the fall back plan?

Titans General Manager Ruston Webster will never say. But the Titans liked Florida defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd, and if Chance Warmack hadn’t been in play with the 10th overall pick, the Titans might’ve prevented his free-fall to the Vikings at 23. Florida State cornerback Xavier Rhodes (who went to Minnesota at 25) was also guy the team coveted, but he might’ve been a reach at 10. The Jets kept them from making a tough decision between two Alabama players when they took former Crimson Tide cornerback Dee Milliner at 9.

    Why did the Titans take?:

A few picks after the Titans took Missouri linebacker Zaviar Gooden 97th overall in the third round, the Chiefs took Alabama’s Nico Johnson, a hard-nosed middle linebacker who would’ve provided depth for Colin McCarthy in the middle. Texas defensive end Alex Okafor (6-4, 264) was also on the board late in the third when the Titans took Gooden. Okafor ended up going early in the fourth round. He would’ve been a nice fit for the Titans, who ended up grabbing a defensive end a few rounds later in the fifth in LSU’s Lavar Edwards.

Who are some veterans on the spot as a result of the draft?

The list is long. Justin Hunter’s arrival puts the roster spot of several veteran receivers in jeopardy for 2013, and that list includes Nate Washington, Lavelle Hawkins and Marc Mariani. If nothing else, it’s a number thing. The addition of Chance Warmack and Brian Schwenke likely creates an either-or situation between recently signed center/guards in Rob Turner and Chris Spenceras well. Eugene Amano didn’t figure into the team’s plans this fall even before the draft, though he remains on the roster. He’s expected to be released The addition of safety Daimion Stafford (7th round pick) means even less job security for back-end safeties like Al Afalava, Markelle Martin and Tracy Wilson.

I would like to see a guy like Nico on the roster but the Titans loved Gooden's talent. They must have a plan for using him.

I think it was hard to pass on a guy like Gooden. At the very least he gives us a guy who should excel on special teams. And there is no replacement for speed. Makes a nice backup for Brown. Who knows, maybe one of those two ends up playing MLB and we can get both on the field at the same time.

As for the safeties. Alfalava should not be on the roster this year.

I wondered if Ayers will learn MLB at some point.

I have thought that myself. Given his size and tackling ability he should make a good MLB. Even wondered before this past season if he and McCarthy should switch spots.

I've watched tape on Zaviar and I'm not impressed in the slightest. He constantly looks lost. Speed doesn't make up for instinct. Ever.

This amazing Draft combined with our huge FA means the entire team will have alot of new faces. The draft might have gone different if Milliner was there at 10 as we might have waited until 3rd or later to get a G. But with the team trading up to get Hunter, I don't see anyway, we wouldnt have taken him with our 2nd round.

Webster this morning on the radio said that they were hoping to get a Lber who could play both Will and Mike spots, but the guy they were targeting got picked before their turn. The only other Lbers taken in the 3rd rnd were Sio Moore and Corey Lemonier.

I never really thought of Nico to us, that would've been a good fit but I guess they found it too hard to pass up on Gooden.

Agreed. I would of much rather of drafted Nico Johnson, Alex Okafor, or Khaseem Greene. I also hate the Zach Brown selection, now he's one of my favorites.
