One: Reluctance or inability to trade down and play the draft board a bit.

Two: Not drafting a QB in every draft.

We had some great chances to trade down or out of our draft picks once again but, as usual, we stayed put and picked a player. I just wish we would try to play the board a bit like many other teams do to pick up additional picks. I was hoping we'd trade our 5th pick for a 4th next year or, honestly, any additional pick next year. Instead we take the 3rd DE from LSU, I dunno the guy could be good but I sure would have like to see us add some extra picks for next year in hopes of compensating for the 3rd we gave up. So often, good players slide, having extra picks would be a blessing under those circumstances.

I truly feel that we should be drafting a QB every year, because you just never know. Could find a Tom Brady, could develop a Matt Flynn and have some trade bait, could bust. I'm not saying take a guy in the the 1st - 3rd, but using fliers on late round guys should be the norm.

All that said I really do like our draft through Schwenke, but after that I'm pretty bummed. I'd have been much happier if we took a flier on Bray or Jordan Rodgers with our 7th, but all in all I'm very happy.

Lack of D-lineman deeply concerns me. That LB pick was puzzling when there was so much DE/DT talent still on the board.

I bet we would have, if not for the Fitzpatrick pickup. I think they're going to hedge their bets on one of these two guys for this year, and if Locker fails, they'll go QB high next year. Because of Fitzpatrick, that's why I didn't expect them to pick a QB. I would have been very happy to get Nassib or Barkley in the 4th though.

    Drafting an OLB... stupid, however.

I have come to accept I will never get all I want out of drafts. I will take this over the thing that bugged me the most about the draft last year. Which was the fact we did not take an OL.

Don't be bummed, if Locker blows it then we'll have our choice at a few good QB's. Much better class next year at QB, this years group was crap.

How do you know this? Rumor is that everybody was looking to trade down this year. Not many teams were looking to trade up.

I won't lie, I wish we had grabbed Barkley with final pick of the third round.

    Seniors
    AJ McCarron
    Logan Thomas
    Aaron Murray
    Tajh Boyd

    plus juniors...
    Teddy Bridgewater
    Braxton Miller
    Blake Bell
    Jeff Driskel
    Clint Trickett

If Locker sucks, I can see Fitz getting the nod after the bye. One of those QBs could be our QB next year. Lets hope Locker shows up though.

Clint Trickett??? why would you include him in the list? He might not even get a chance to play.

It would be an interesting pick. Probably worth a shot. If he turned out to be even half decent we could trade him for a second in a few years.
