Do you actually think this is important? He plays with a chip on his shoulder and wants to prove his critics wrong. As long as he can take the criticism from coaches that's all that matters.

I'm sorry, Merril Hodge is the last guy an NFL player should be worrying about. So yes, I do think it's important.

Proving critics wrong is human nature. Every NFL player tries to do it, just like every one of us wants to prove "doubters" wrong. There is nothing wrong with it as long as it is used in a positive manner, which Vince seems to have a history of doing. I do agree that this entire conversation has nothing to do with his dealing with coaches, which was the original premise of the thread.

Shoot, Michael Jordan talked about using his getting cut from the HS basketball team as part of his motivation even until he retired. I have a feeling that you think MJ's HS Basketball Coach was of little value, but it motivated MJ--let Vince use whoever he wants as motivation-what do I care.

You actually remind me a little bit of hoge. And can you post me the story where vince talks about hoges comments? I never saw it I don't think. And apparently no great athletes have used motivation from the media. Lebron, kobe, and t-mac to name a few have always commented on criticism coming from the media. Don't worry maybe vince will have a terrible year this year and we'll go 3-13 or something. For you that would be much better than him throwing 40 tds and us going 16-0 and winning the super bowl.

Gotta love the "because you're realistic about Vince, you hate him" type responses. The guy isn't good. That doesn't mean I don't want him to be. I'm poor, so I'm not expecting a yacht anytime soon, you know?

I cant find the quote from Vince mentioning Merrill, but it was during a press conference on TV.

    Exact Quote from 60 Minutes:

Asked if he's going to the playoffs, Young tells Pelley, "We working on it right now. I wanna say, you know, I'm not trying to predict it right now. But how we looking right now, we have a big shot at it."

"People have told you to calm down on your predictions, haven't they?" Pelley asks.

    "No," Young says, laughing.

    "No?" Pelley asks.

Says Young, "Can't nobody tell me nothing."

That is what we are worried about.

I am fine with that. Go get 'em Vince.

In addition to the footwork, I'm reminded of Mawae's comments that sometimes Vince didn't know the play that was called. Hopefully that won't happen anymore either.
