    i'll play devil's advocate for mccarthy.. it was ONE game.. it's hard to give any player the benefit of the doubt with just one game...
    however, was i surprised when i looked up at the scoreboard today and saw that mccarthy was a leading tackler? yes, yes i did... if he keeps it up (which i hope) we can just drop ruud at the end of this season..

    He's not Hester, but he doesn't let the ball bounce off his facemask like Mouton. He's made relatively few mistakes and he keeps a decent average. That's why I like him.

    The MLB should be the leading tackler in our defense, especially when you don't get any blockers on you because the defensive line is playing extremely well.

    McCarthy would have been just as "bad" as Ruud in any of the games where our defensive line chose not to show up. It's really quite simple, if you keep blockers off the linebackers they will make plays, but if you don't you're going to get shredded.

    I'm not down on him. I just don't think that he's the stud that many are making him out to be.

    That half sack was a broken tackle. Newton spun out of it and a lineman sacked Newton and slammed him back into McCarthy.

    Does this Forum have a sense of perspective button ?

    McCarthys performance yesterday was as much a yardstick of Ruud's inability as to what he can bring to the table.

    He showed great hustle , made some good plays and tackles but got caught up a couple of times on runs and was out of position on a couple of other plays.

    Looked enthusiastic and seemed that he could do a decent job but my god you'd think he was Mike Singletary the way people want to crown him.

    Put him up against a decent offense first and then see how he does , i.e lets see him stand up to Tate and Foster et al in Houston. If he passes that then we may be onto something. Until then please leave the medication alone folks.

    I'm encouraged by McCarthy. I think he had a good game as did many others. But it was the Panthers. I think we have to temper our enthusiasm a bit until he shows it against a better quality opponent.

    The Panthers were the 5th best offense in the league coming into this game - by yardage. It's not like the Titans were playing a poor offense yesterday. Not the best in the league, but clearly not one of the worst.

    I think we are rebuilding(my opinion)so went I see a useless vet like Ruud missing tackles left and right and getting own in pass coverage and on the other side you have a ROOKIE with potential why not played the young guy is not like we are gonna make it to the playoffs.

    Rudd=Not the future
    McCarthy=Maybe
    Draft MLB pick=most likely the future.
