SUMMARY: The Titans appear close to signing WR Mike Williams and may have him on the roster by the end of the week. The 10th overall pick of the 2005 draft by the Lions, Williams was traded to the Raiders in April. Oakland cut him Oct. 30. The Titans plan to give the 6-foot-5, 230-pound Williams a shot as a receiver, although some other teams were considering him as a tight end. Williams was an All-American at Southern Cal under offensive coordinator Norm Chow, who is now in the same role with the Titans. The Titans also plan to add return man Chris Barclay, who was on the Browns' practice squad, to the 53-man roster. The 5-10, 180-pound Barclay will be used as a kick and punt returner.

    Some stuff on Barclay:

Barclay enters the 2007 season looking to earn the backup running back role behind Jamal Lewis after spending much of his rookie season in 2006 on the practice squad. He currently plays for the Berlin Thunder,an NFL Europe team, where he been highlighted for his big play potential by returning a kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown and also rushing for a 52 yard touchdown.

    Biography
Barclay left a mark at Wake Forest University by being the career leading rusher in seven stats. Some of these honors include the yards rushing (4,032), scoring (240 points), rushing TD's (40), total TD's (40), and all purpose yards (4,930). He became one of only 3 players in the ACC and 31 in Division 1 history to rush for over 4,000 yards. In 2005 he was named the ACC offensive player of the year after rushing for 1,127 yards on 218 carries with 10 TD's.

    Draft bio on Barclay:

"Extremely quick, and great field awareness, can juke cut defenders out of their shoes. Has improved his strength over his career and despite his size, is very hard to bring down. The focal point of the offense, and has been successful even when defenses know he's getting the ball. Very smart player, a student of the game, and an exceptional student."

Maybe Barclay can prove he is worth a roster spot as a kick returner while Henry is out. He also looks like he could be a emergency RB and can catch passes out of the backfield. I can see why the Browns didn't need him returning kicks. Cribbs is leading the league with a 32.8 yard average including 2 TDs.

We had one already open and Henry's suspension makes two.

Most likely, Barclay is only on the active roster a month. Then he'll go back to the practice squad.

I bet once reunited with his old Sensei, Williams will emerge as a favorite target of Vince Young's and lead this team in receiving. Just watch him end up being a huge diamond in the rough. I may be setting myself up for a let down but I'm very excited at the prospect of having a decent target in Williams.
