What is your basis for that reasoning? Matthews has been with the team since 2010. This is his 3rd year. He could probably step in and play C and we wouldn't notice much if any difference. Not like Velasco is a seasoned vet and Matthews is a 16 year old. Velasco has only been in the league on more year. Harris is only in his 4th year. He started his 3rd year.

Just because Matthews was an UDFA (as was Velasco) doesn't mean he is any less ready or younger. I just don't see much difference in Matthews and Velasco at C. Right now if Velasco, Harris or Hutchinson gets hurt guess who ends up being starter? I think it is Matthews. They might shuffle guys around like letting Matthews play C and having Velasco move to OG or something. But in his 3rd year he better be ready to at least be a viable backup. I also think he demonstrated he can be a decent backup C but also step in at OG. They played him at OG on both sides and he did well. Obviously they wanted to see if they go into a game with a number of guys inactive they can depend on Matthews to be able to step into any of those three spots. He might be as good of a C right now as Koppen and a better OG.

Matthews needs time to grow before I feel comfortable about starting him, he's weak, or so it looks that way on tape. I don't really see him pushing guys around much. Right now he's on Amano's level. Just kinda stands up and does very little to make himself look good.

Kellen Winslow has been old news for like 3 years. He puts up good numbers, but he's not the guy he once was. I only see him declining from here.
