They might be yelling, but they're still SINGING. Rappers DO NOT SING their lyrics. They just say it. Surely you can't be than non perceptive?
All those things you mention above, flow, presence etc., has nothing to do with them just talking rather than singing (which they are doing), and has nothing to do with talent.

Some rock isn't singing, just screaming, ruining their vocal cords. But many rappers feel the need to use technology, because they can't sing.

Kanye. If he's the voice of the generation, this generation cannot sing.

I don't have much respect for artists who don't have any hand in writing the music. This includes all types of music. ie Elvis
But as far as rap goes, it's the producers/instrumentalists that deserve the credit much of the time.

Some rappers legitimately are musicians, not just guys who stand and spout vulgarities in front of a microphone. Sometimes they are. I see both sides of this one. Some rock is mindless crap as well.

That's the thing best about most true hip hop artists, they write their own material. And in my opinion, no other genre comes close to hip hop when it comes to lyrical content.

I think most people just know little about rap other than what's on the radio. Sad that the examples of rap right now for those that aren't familiar are Lil Wayne, Gucci Mayne, Soulja Boi, etc.

While I tend to agree, I'll acknowledge that writing and performing are two different things.. How far does it have to go? It's pretty common (if not more often than not) that one or two dudes in a band will write everything for the entire band including guitar players writing lyrics for singers etc. I'd rather pull my hair out than use the lyrics our singer comes up with - I'll write the stuff before he ever gets a chance at it.. Then again, I'm no singer..
