Last night Brian Hoyer made the most of being in a prime time match-up. Not only did he stick it to a division rival, but he gained a lot of fans respect.

Before yesterdays game, I always looked at Hoyer as average at best, and I still do. If you look at what he's asked to do its not much, even last night he leaned heavily on his RB's to carry the offense, Hoyer didn't score a TD or break 200-yards passing. But showing up when the world is watching you means something.

As some may know; Andy Dalton is 2-9 in prime-time or postseason games, whereas Brian Hoyer is yet to make the post season but does have the Browns in 1st place in the AFC North and on the upswing at 6-3.

Here are the latest QB contracts given out:
    3/20/2012: Peyton Manning signed for five-years $96M
    7/13/2012: Drew Brees signed for five-years $100M
    3/1/2013: Joe Flacco signed for six-years $120.6M
    3/29/2013: Tony Romo signed for seven-years $119.5M
    4/26/2013: Aaron Rodgers signed for seven-years $130.75M
    7/25/2013: Matt Ryan signed for six-years $113.75M
    1/2/2014: Jay Cutler signed for seven-years $126.7M
    8/4/2014: Andy Dalton signed for seven-years $97.09M

At the moment Hoyer is on pace to throw for 3,900-yards and 17-18 TD's. Those stats measure up favorably to all the players who've been paid before him. Joe Flacco threw for less yards and as you see above was paid quite well. He also won a Super Bowl a few weeks earlier but his regular season play was less than amazing.

With all that info, what is Brian Hoyer worth?

unless he goes on a rampage in the playoffs, I don't see him getting a large contract. It's all about the name recognition, and Hoyer needs 2-3 solid years, or a great postseason run, to earn that.

I think the better question now is what is manziel worth?

He is now 9-3 as a starter if he continues his success and a playoff appareance/win. I think he's worth an incentive based short term deal. At age 29 and only a game manager in my eyes at this point.

Whitehurst signed a two-year contract $8mil with $4mil in incentives
    Fitzpratick signed a three-year contract $20mil contract (titans) two-year $7.5 Texans
Matt Hasselbeck 3 year $20mil (titans) 2 year 8 mil (colts)

I can maybe justify 3 year $25 mil for a Quarterback needy team. Can justify more if he continues the success and wins a playoff game or two.

If Hoyer is a real QB he won't ever make it out of Cleveland.

They ain't dumb enough to place all their eggs in the Manziel basket.

If they let Hoyer walk then I'm assuming he ain't nothing but an average starting QB and doesn't deserve a dime.

Has your team ever been so bad that forum members are debating the merits of signing a 29 year old average QB from Cleveland in November?
