Was Patriots choice to pursue goal line stand the gutsiest call in NFL history?

Taking a knee when you're behind by 4 points? Lol no. You think the critics were harsh on him for the pass play... think about what would be said if he wasted two downs by taking knees (if they don't score on 4th down).

You score as soon as you can score. Then you just hope that Hauschka kicks it out of the endzone and that your #1 defense does it's job. At worst (unless your defense absolutely blows ass), you'll give up a field goal.

Guaranteed they have a good chance to finish the game and win it that way.

Just to add to this. The whole score as soon as you can thing is hooey. You would think coaches would look into Game Theory a little more.

In that scenario with 25 seconds left, you score if you can score. You're down by 4, not 3. You have to score a TD.

Why would you have the Pats burn both timeouts to get to 20 seconds left and have an all or nothing 4th and goal from the 2 play? Lol that is lunacy.

Beggars can't be choosers. You've already burned a ton of time... Now score and have your defense do their job.

    That is all.

I highly doubt the success percentage alters that much from 2 attempts and 3 attempts. The success rate is still pretty high. So the amount of attempts dosent factor in.

If you are going to score the touchdown it dosent matter if you have more time on the clock as 2 run plays can be done in 20 seconds, especially when the hawks have a timeout if need be.

The optimal scenario is two runs with Marshawn, leaving the patriots no time outs and 10ish seconds. Your probability of scoring is near the same, although it drastically reduces the Patriots.

Score right away, which a run play would have done on the 1 yard line with Marshawn. You give the Pats the optimal scenario, 24 seconds and 2 time outs.

Time is a non-factor for the hawks but a major factor for the Pats. Bill knew that if he blew a time out there it leaves everything in the hawks hands. Him not calling a timeout was the correct move.

Of course there was - but I guarantee he was sweating stopping the clock with each digit flipping away.
How much time was shown on the clock when the cameras had Belichick onscreen before the INT?

The Butler INT was on 2nd down.

You suggested that the Seahawks take two knees and burn the Pats timeouts. That leads to 4th down with 20 seconds left, 2 yards out.

Forget the clock for a second... You would put your team in a do or die 4th and goal from the 2 yard line situation all to burn five seconds and two Pats timeouts?

Like I said, in that situation beggars can't be choosers. You were already able to burn a TON of clock as you wanted. Why waste two plays? Lol

That was definitely gutsy, although if the Seahawks had scored Belicheat would have spent the past couple of weeks explaining himself rather than Carroll.

The closest comparison in my memory is (showing age here, although I was a kid back then) Super Bowl X, when Chuck Noll elected to go for it on 4th down with the ball on his side of the field, 1-2 minutes left, and the Steelers up by 4 vs. Roger Staubach and the Cowboys. They ran it into the line, gave up the ball on downs, and proceeded to shut down the Cowboys on the next drive. Afterward Noll said that he trusted his D, so had no problem making the call. Steelers D was really good back then, but that took some balls IMO.....

I think he saw that they were about to pass and knew there was a better chance against the pass than the run. You call timeout there and theres a good chance the Seahawks would have reconsidered and ran the ball.

My buddy is a Pats fan and we were both looking at each other asking why the hell he wasn't calling timeout. But it worked out.

Lucky to an extent - but the INT was indeed based off a play or read The Pats had prepared for.
