IDK about that. Back in Rices day he actualy got hit. Talent is better now, but the game is easier for WRs.

Problem is at 6'3 220 Calvin would have no issues hitting them right back and probably harder. He's bigger than a lot of backers and even some D-ends were in those day.

True, but there is the fact that Megatron broke Rice's single season receiving record... and he's on pace to break Rice's all time receiving record.

Also, Stafford is great, but he's no Montana/Young.

When did Jerry Rice ever make one of those classic Megatron jump catches where he makes the catch while three defenders are on him?

C'mon man! This is just ignorant.

Jerry Rice would be just as good, if not better, today as he was during his playing time. Heck, he just retired 9 years ago.

Talent may be better today, but defensive play is worse. Some of that has to do with rule changes, some has to do with lack of discipline. Rice was probably the most disciplined player ever and he would eat these young DBs up.

Looking over the long term.. say from the 60's to present day.. Does anyone think that rules changes over time that have made it absurdly difficult to play defense has diluted the defensive "gene pool" over time? In other words, has the NFL environment with all its rules against defense acted as a force that has driven the devolution of defense over the decades?

Jesus, the man is a freak. He's almost as big as Bruce Irvin a current DE.

Agree to disagree. I just hate the fact that some people can't accept the possibility of a current stud being better than a legendary player. It's not like I'm saying Stafford is better than Montana. So Terry Bradshaw won four Super Bowls and Elway won two. Are they better than Peyton Manning and Tom Brady? No. I'm sure there are many (who grew up during the Bradshaw era and saw Elway his entire career) who would say otherwise, but they'd be wrong.

The CBs today are so much faster. And Jerry's strength was never speed. I think he'd have a lot tougher time matching up with some of the speedsters today.

Either way Jerry Jones, Rob Ryan, and Dez Bryant must all be on bath salts. What the hell were they doing covering Calvin Johnson without double teaming him? Deion/Calvin would be a good matchup but Megatron is just the KING of jump balls.

Probably off subject but I think Ryan(?) Clarke coming to the defense of Dez comparing him to Brady is bogus. Brady makes his team better and has proved he can get it done. Dez has always been a diva/distraction and needs his own set of handlers just to make it through day to day life without stabbing a stripper.
