Posted by ESPN.com's Paul Kuharsky
It looks as if Mike Trgovac will be the Jaguars' new defensive coordinator.

He's been with the Panthers since 2002, but his contract is up and he recently shifted gears. Pat Yasinskas over on the NFC South blog says Trgovac told the team he was going to pursue other options. Trgovac and Del Rio are good friends from their one year together in 2002, when Del Rio was Carolina's defensive coordinator and Trgovac was defensive line coach.

Del Rio is coaching the South team at the Senior Bowl with a thin staff -- he has seven openings.

Trgovac will bring some intrigue with him. While Jaguars owner Wayne Weaver has indicated the team is wary of free agency after big-dollar contracts for receiver Jerry Porter and cornerback Drayton Florence backfired, the team has a pass-rush issue and now has a tie to Carolina free-agent-to-be Julius Peppers.

Peppers is unhappy and looking to leave. And contrary to popular opinion, I am told he and Trgovac get along just fine.

Could the Jaguars, with $15 million in cap space, make a push for Peppers when free agency opens at the end of February?
