Mike Vick did that too (speech/diction classes), but that was just to increase his marketability and commercial appeal, ie make it easier for him to make Coca-cola ads...

Of course, that didn't help him handle the west coast offense any better. :suspect:

Seriously, why nay-say? You're always nay-saying everything I create! You try creating something...LIKE INWARD SINGING!

DRINK THE KOOL-AIDE!!! Drink up people!!!

Don't you think it is kind of funny that Vick needed speech therapy to land ads with an Atlanta based company when he plays for an Atlanta team?

Vince Young could be an autistic deaf-mute for all I care... it's his ability to win ball games is what I am concerned about. I see no harm in clowning around about it. He's our guy... so we can say what we want because he is a VERY popular choice.

I love the fact we chose him over Leinart and Cutler...

Vince Young... the CHOICE of the Tennessee Titans...[IMG]

What is the problem exactly with the way Young speaks? I once watched an interview with him after a college game and it was prefectly fine. But I'm sure he'll be more than happy to take some speech classes just to please a couple of people on this board.

This thread has turned into a “defend the way Vince speaks” movement, and I’m certainly cool with that (as is reflected in my earlier post). I want him to ball not orate.

Truthfully though, I have noticed some pretty startling things when watching Vince interviewed. To me it seems he has some real English comprehension problems. I’ve noticed on a couple of occasions he doesn’t correctly understand fairly straight forward questions being asked of him. This lack of comprehension of course manifests itself in his manner of speech as well. I’m not saying, nor even remotely implying that Vince is an unintelligent person. I really don’t think you could achieve the things he has without being a pretty bright guy. But, it’s clear he has never been a big reader, nor has a English been emphasized by those charged with educating him in his youth. Perhaps Vince has a specific learning disorder that makes reading difficult, but given the amount of revenue he was generating for the schools that he was playing for, they should have made every possible effort to properly help him overcome this. The NCAA and whatever high school district he played for went to the bank when Vince did his thing, yet they failed him. Even using the logic that “Vince is a football player, he doesn’t need these skills” is crap. Vince would stand to gain more than most (in terms of marketing dollars) if he had a better grasp of the English language.

I know I’m not breaking any new ground here when I state that both college football and big time high school football programs are just cash cows for the schools, with little actual regard for the athletes that fill their stadiums, and Vince’s situation is certainly not unique, but the whole culture of it (and culture of acceptance that surrounds it) just pisses me off. If you want to push a guy through the system and let him slide on some classes, I guess that’s between the college and the player, but come on, if indeed they are nothing but a training ground for professional athletes, for **** sakes at least teach them the skill sets that will truly reap them benefits on the next level.

Even in saying all of that, I do honestly feel that Vince is a bright, passionate individual. And given his record of success in life, I’m sure that if in fact this is a priority for him he will learn to excel at these skills that now are perceived as lacking.

Sorry… I had to get that off my chest. Rant over.

Hey BIP...I am drinking the juice, I am on board, lets help this young man take the strides he needs to take and encourage him...oh yes,and have some fun along the way would be OK......As I recall, the wouldn't let Lester Hayes speak on camera, but he was a FINE player. Lets worry about TDs and Wins and less about speach....#10^
