It really can't be justified/rationalized.

I'm not a big LJ fan- he has always appeared to have an incredibly negative attitude from college until now. I think we could expect more of that since his role will likely be limited even beyond what he feels he can still do.

Teams bring in players to work out all the time. This is just published because LJ is a former all pro. Teams update their profiles on players all the time. Remember a few weeks back when Washington brought in Jamarcus Russell for a workout? No intentions of signing him...

We need to get over the Blount thing. He was an undrafted rookie who has now become a decent back. Is he better then CJ NO. Would he maybe steal some carries from him during the game (maybe 5). I know people keep saying we need a short yardage runner. Short yardage is only as good as the blocking in front of him. And let's face it our blocking has been sub par this year.

Another poster mentioned CJ getting stopped for 3 yard losses where Blount would have picked up yardage. Its time to start watching the games. With 9 guys in the box it doesnt matter who is in the backfield they are not going to win that battle when they bring 8 or 9 and we only have 7 to block with.

 

Yeah, but... a bigger back would make the defenders pay with their bodies when they fill the box. A big back hitting the defenders versus CJ hitting those defenders would be significant.

I'll use Blount as an example - not going to hindsight it, though.

If you are an NFL linebacker or safety... who would you rather have running into you over-and-over again? Chris Johnson or a bigger back, like Blount?

That is the intangible a bigger back brings to a run game. Defense wants to stack the box? Make them pay for it.
