ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. The Titans emerged with a victory over the Bills, but they know they’ve got plenty of work to do defensively. One area that proved especially problematic for the Titans was covering running backs in the passing game, as Fred Jackson caught eight passes for 49 yards and a touchdown and C.J. Spiller caught six passes for 32 yards and a touchdown. “This defense we played is one that a lot of times will have two high safeties and sit back,” Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick said. “If we can get our guys the ball and get them a block, then it gives us a good chance to get them in space. That is part of what we wanted to do today.” Said Titans safety Michael Griffin: “They were just screening us to death. They really weren’t throwing the ball downfield. It was more just screens, and on screens, everybody has to get to the ball.” Source: Titans Insider
Most teams struggle against the Bills' screens. It's something the Bills are excellent (maybe the best in the league) at.
Buffalo have a deadly 2 headed combo at RB. We didn't win this game, Buffalo lost this game. They were passing when they should have run.
I'm not worried about style points. I'll take the victory. But we have to make defensive adjustments at halftime that address what the other team is doing well against us and give our guys a fighting chance. They went back to the screen almost every time they were in trouble and we only defended it well twice all day.
