The Titans were stifled in the running game in Sunday’s loss to the New York Jets, managing just 78 yards on 31 carries – an average of 2.5 yards per carry. The Jets’ defense was especially tough on Chris Johnson, who carried 15 times for 21 yards.

Titans coach Mike Munchak sounded frustrated with the limited production on Monday, saying there were times that linemen didn’t block well and times that the backs didn’t run as well as they should have.

“We had a handful of opportunities and small windows for good runs that we didn’t get,” Munchak said. “There were about two or three spots where I thought we would get that (big) run that would kind of change the game that way. We didn’t, and that’s a credit to them, and to us not playing as well as we needed to in spots. We had good looks. It wasn’t like we were outnumbered in spots. It was just physically, I thought they made more plays than they should have.”

The Titans are 12th in the league with an average of 119.8 rushing yards per game, but only 24th in the league when it comes to average gain per rush at 3.5 per carry. Johnson’s long run is only 23 yards, and it’s the only run over 20 yards he has through four games.

“We need to get better, no doubt,” Munchak said. “We need to get more consistent. We had a couple of minus-two, minus-one and minus-three (rushes). We really haven’t hadn’t many of those runs this year, so we’ve gotta’ clean that up.”

Our running game will be good as new once Greene is back. We're gonna need him with Jake outta commission for a while, too. Playoffs or bust baby.

shonn green is so necessary, he's like a good middle ground between cj and battle. quick feet but strong and aggressive . He will make up for some of our OL's short comings.
