My point is that WR is a harder position to evaluate and many 1st round picks bust. How do we know who is going to be the best player when we look at our board?

It appears we aren't looking at Dwayne Bowe (who is dominating in Mobile) so it doesn't look like we are going to take a WR early.

I'll let you guys evaluate their careers :winker:

If you need a WR, you draft one. It's so simple. I hope we take one in the first round.

    D. Bowe is the class of WR's, in my opinion. He's putting on a clinic, according to Scott Wright over at nfldraftcountdown.com. This guy is rediculous. He's got size, speed and hands. If we do go WR in the first, we should nab him. If we go WR in 2nd and later, Williams and Hill is who we should go with. Sure Williams hasn't been very productive in college, but he has the measureables to be a star - plus he might have been a victim of QB play. In the highlight video he was catching a lot of screens and featured running in a lot of plays. Hill is an overachiever without the size, but has the production and ball skills to warrant a 3rd or 4th round selection.

You might have a point about WRs being harder to evaluate but it simply doesn't make sense to use that as a viable reason to not take one if you really feel a particular player is the BPA. The main thing is to not just take a WR because we need one. Using your logic no WR should be drafted past the top 10 picks, ever.

Where do you get the impression we are not looking at Bowe?

WR is no harder a position to evaluate than any other position. If you look at recent drafts there are just as many bust at every other position.

There are no bigger busts than at CB:
    Bryant Westbrook
    Phillip Buchanan
    Michael Booker
    Tommy Knight
    Terry Fair
    Rashard Anderson
    Jamar Fletcher
    Wille Middlebrooks
    Andre Woolfolk

    Or DE:
    Cedric Jones
    Andre Wadsworth
    Courtney Brown
    Regan Upshaw
    Jamal Reynolds
    Reinard Wilson
    Lamar King
    Ebenezer Ekuban
    Jon Harris
    Erik Flowers

    Or RB:

    Tim Biakabutuka
    Lawerence Phiilips
    Curtis Ennis
    Ricky Williams
    Ron Dayne
    Trung Candidate
    William Green

    Or QB:
    Tim Couch
    Akili Smith
    Ryan Leaf
    Cade McNown
    David Carr
    Patrick Ramsey
    Jim Druckenmiller

    OT

    Andre Johnson
    Jon Michaels
    Mo Collins
    L.J. Shelton
    Mike Brown
    Aaron Gibson
    Matt Stinchcomb
    Jeff Backus
    Marc Colombo
    George Foster

    DT
    Dimitrius Underwood
    Wendell Bryant
    Jonathan Sullivan
    Damione Lewis
    Gerard Warren
    Ryan Simms
    Jimmy Kennedy

    LB

    Napoleon Harris
    Reggie Brown
    Dwayne Rudd
    Chris Claiborne
    Andy Katzenmoyer

Yeah, all of these players are first round picks. It's a crapshoot.

It just shows that outside of the can't-miss prospects (CJ this year) it's a crap shoot. We may feel a certain player is the BPA, and he'll flop like the rest of them. Do you think the teams that drafted all the other WR's thought they were going to be a bust? No, they drafted them thinking they would be stars.

There are a lot of great WRs in this class, but which ones are going to flop and which ones are going to be stars? It's very hard to tell
