Titans linebackers making noise

Titans linebacker Akeem Ayers has posted two of his four sacks this season in the last four games, and linebacker Zach Brown has notched 3.5 of his 4.5 sacks in the last four games.

So does that mean the Titans are blitzing more often or does it mean the linebackers have simply been more effective at getting to the quarterback when blitzes have been called?

“I think both,” Titans coach Mike Munchak said. “(Defensive coordinator Jerry Gray) has been calling blitzes. They’re just knowing when to blitz better and learning how to disguise things better. That’s a big part of it.”

Brown started seeing a marked increase in his playing time about halfway through the season, and that game experience is now paying off in the blitzing department, according to Munchak.

“You get an offensive lineman to turn his head and now you (blitz),” Munchak said. “Those are things that you have to play to get. You can’t go on a chalkboard to teach that. You have to play. You have to get a feel for the game and a feel for … how to beat the guy over you.”

Brown had two sacks last night and Ayers – who sometimes plays defensive end in passing situations – had one sack.

“I think they’re picking up on certain things and getting better at them,” Munchak said. “When you have guys with that kind of speed that they have and that kind of strength, they can be special, and I think you’re seeing some of those kinds of plays that they can make.”

Zach Brown & Akeem Ayers are the only positive things we've had this season on defense.

'la Vagicians' second pick was a really good play by him. The first one was basically fielding a punt - but at least he caught it.

He almost overran the first one. Had Braylon Edwards high-pointed the ball it would have been another laugher for Griffin.

    BINGO!

The trickiest part of blitzing is being patient.

People think blitz means go all out as fast as you can towards the QB, but a lot of the time you're better off waiting a count or two to see where the blockers going to go.

No arguement there. But, our secondary looks bad because of those great safeties we have.

Babs has to go, he's worse than Griffin.

Babineaux only looked good because he replaced Chris Hopeless. I'm calling for a 2nd round safety, hopefully Matt Elam. I'm dreaming Griffin plays these next two games like he did vs. the Jets & Dolphins.

That second sack ZB had he did just that too. You see him just kinda standing there for a couple seconds after the snap, then just knifes in and gets to the QB untouched. It was awesome.
